Euro Millions next week!!!

Ooo just bought my ticket online, and on the slight off chance I don't win, I got a ticket for lotto as well. Just in case.

Well for the first time in my life I decided to buy a few lottery tickets, got 4 lucky dips, may be an utterly minuscule chance of winning but hey, it's zero if you don't even enter.

I can't even comprehend what it would feel like to win even a 10th of the jackpot, unless you decided to blow most of it on buying an island, your money would easily outlast you.

Does anywhere on the lottery site show you what numbers were called out on your previous tickets?

I know it says they tell you if you win but I was trying to look back and see how many numbers etc I had but it seems impossible

You can invest in sovereign bonds (admittedly not as an individual investor but you could through a fund), Brazil 30y sov.bonds give 8.25% coupon! Colombia 30y coupon is 10.38%. Hell, with 120m you could take the tests and open your own fund to invest in these and be a resident of the isle of man or guernsey for a nice tax-free offshore income!

A lot of risk over 30 years I'm afraid. The EMBI+ risk measure in fact uses the spread as an important factor.

Also what do you mean that the security would be worth more than 120m? compound interest of 10% for 5y gives a return of 73m. Was it a figure of speech or did you mean something different in respect of "worth" (as in worth to a bank to do that compared to other investment opportunities)?

Well in a traditional savings account sense, you get the principal amount back in nominal terms. Hence why its much more than £120m. Only reason why a security returning 10% is buyable for £120m now is due to risk.

Say for example, the US issued a bond paying 10% a year for 5 years returning $120m at the end of the term. Is that only worth $120m now?

If you want something more secure than investing in colombian bonds you could simply diversify your 120m in big market-cap stocks that give a nice divi every now and then and easily achieve a moderate 5-8% p.a on that investment. Not bad!!!

Again, this is far from the risk free nature we've been talking about.

So to confirm what "Hatter the Mad" said, higher risk = higher returns. 10% risk free returns don't exist unless you find an mispriced opportunity in the market and can instantly hedge. You'd have to be working as a trader in an IB or prop trading firm to actually be able to do this in reality.

arghhhhhhhhhhh!

Doubt it - people with 5 numbers and 1 star gets the share of the top prize I believe?

Anyway, I have the winning ticket! :D ;)

The new rules introduce the Jackpot Pool Cap. When the Jackpot reaches or exceeds €185,000,000, the Jackpot will be €185,000,000 and any additional prize money rolled over will be added to the jackpot pool for the next lower prize level (5 main numbers + 1 Lucky Star).

If the €185,000,000 Jackpot is not won, the Jackpot will be increased by €5,000,000 each week until it is won, and again any additional prize money will be added to the jackpot pool for the next lower prize level.

Just popped on four lines in the hope of winning something. I think 112 Million would be far too much for one individual to win, I'd be overjoyed at 1 Million :)
