i know the rules.. that does not mean ill fallow all of them.. i don't cross when there's people crossing the road on red light.. if there's a cars coming or anything like that i don't cross either.. but i do see some really RUDE cyclists.. even tho im 19.. and i ride bmx.. pathway-road-pathway.. it even surprises me how some of them are alive.. i do think i am bit "meh" when on the road.. but i would never for the love of god do what others do.. i stop.. and sort of wait for something to happen.. when you see them for e.g. crossing red light when there's cars coming right at them.. and not only cars.. buses/trucks.. :]

As for the comment above about the country lanes, perhaps its you that needs a highway code refresher, as its perfectly acceptable to ride 2 abreast, and represents no more of a hazard than a horse or tractor.

maybe i got the wrong end of the stick here but i disagree, if i where to be hit by a car im sure i'd rather be in a tracktor than on a push bike.

keep both hands on the handlebars except when signalling or changing gear

i dont get this, why would you need to take your hand off the bars to change gear or does this only apply to the bikes that come with a gear stick mounted on the side

rant..

tbh i dont think cyclists should be aloud to ride on any road rated more than a 30 as they are just a danger to themselves and everyone else. i dont know whether its just up north or not but every cyclist i seem to come upon is a complete t!t. for example there are a couple (man and woman) that i pass on the way to work occasionally that ride side by side on a twisty 60 road but as if thats not bad enough the bloke rides with a big piece of polystirene sticking about a metre out the side of his bike meaning they take up a full lane doing 15mph tops and then as if they haven't ****ed you off enough already with their "i have just as much right to be here as you" attitude when they get to a set of traffic lights they weave in and about the traffic and cut onto the pavement to jump the red light. there has been many a time i've contemplated just running them over and making it look like an accident (too far?).

imo i think if you dont pay road tax/insurance etc. you shouldn't be aloud on the road at all

rant over

please forgive the long post but i really hate cyclists and gypsies (?spelling?)

We weren't allowed to ride our bikes to school until we'd done our Cycling Proficiency tests. I got full marks in mine.

These days, on the rare occasion I cyle I have to admit I'm a bit of a bandit. I switch from pavement to road depending on who I'm trying to get out of the way of.
I never ever hold up cars or obstruct people on foot and I stop at red lights.

pretty much what i do.. if the situation is clearly dangerous/rude i will let the cars/people pass.

If it's safe to ride through a light why not, there are plenty of traffic light setups where it's safe for a cyclist to carry on through a red

Why would a test stop him running a red, out of interest?

it won't.. after all an idiot in a car.. can kill him self and others.. and idiot on a bike if hit by car.. will only kill him self.. unless its some cheezy accident.. :o

I say we should have some some of "anti-mongo" test for cyclist. The amount of people I deal with that can't shift gear properly nevermind navigate through city traffic safely scares me.

Motorists are idiots and horses are win, simples.
