I've been commissioned to write an article on Google Bombs. Before I received the brief I'd never heard of the term. With research I recognised the Microsoft "more evil than Satan himself" thing from waaaay back.

I've read the wiki, so now know a little bit. I still have a lot of research to do, but thought I'd see what the board knows.

Anyway, does anyone know of any more 'bomb's that might not have been in the media? I suspect 4chan has done a fair few; has OCUK?

Wiki overview here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb

Not much help, but I can say OcUK probably has not because of one of the rules, which is plugging one's own site.

Not quite the same, I know.

Outside of what I've heard in the media, though, I'm not aware of it being done.

Ah yes a few months ago the ''obama deception'' movie was at the top of the search engine most looked up and as if by magic was washed out of existence....lol

I think XKCD did on this thing:

We did not invent the algorithm. The algorithm consistently finds Jesus. The algorithm killed Jeeves.
The algorithm is banned in China. The algorithm is from Jersey. The algorithm constantly finds Jesus.
This is not the algorithm. This is close.

Can't remember why exactly. :p

The XKCD guy saw them on billboards around New York that someone was apparently trying to start a viral marketing campaign from, but he made a request people start linking to xkcd with it (this was when the only mentions of it where on blogs about people asking about the billboards0 and he seemingly hijacked it completely from whoever ran the billboard campaign as googling it now takes you to xkcd top of the list :D

Amusing that one guy and his comic strip stole an obviously very expensive advertising campaign with a simple request :D

Justin Beiber is being included, thanks for that one :D

I need a general image for the intro that illustrates 'google bomb', but can't think/find one that's copyright free ><
