First Ever Build - Advice Neeed

So I've decided to take the plunge and build my own gaming PC. To be honest I've gone from knowing pretty much zero to what I would say is enough knowledge to get bye in a couple of weeks just by reading reviews and watching videos but I wouldn't mind a few of you on here to give your opinions on my spec before I buy anything. This is what I've got in mind:

Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle w/ Corsair Hydro H70 High Performance CPU Cooler
Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W Modular Power Supply
Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (will also add a larger HDD at a later date)
2 x MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
LiteOn iHBS112 12x BluRay-RW / 16 x DVD±RW Drive

My main concerns are if anyone can see any obvious compatibility issues and do I need that much power? I've gone for 2 graphics cards which I will be overclocking, any thoughts on these?

that psu is WAY OTT(if you plan to sli gtx 460), a 650w should do gtx 460 sli, 750w for gtx 470 sli and around 1000w for gtx480 sli
your motherboard might not do sli at 8x/8x so getting two gtx 460 could be useless
can we have details on the motherboard you intend to use?

edit: why not get a c300 64gb or the ocz vertex big foot 90gb?

edit 2: just had a quick search on the site and turns out that that motherboard does not do sli at 8x/8x so maybe getting a gtx 470 or 480 is a good idea for now or wait till the new 6xxx series are out(only couple of weeks away)

The ASUS p7p55d-e included in that bundle cant do SLI. I cant see any other pre-overclocked bundles in the same price range that have an SLI motherboard either. Closest one is this i7 bundle

If, however, you feel like you could overclock yourself, you could buy the parts and get a better mobo. Overclocking i5's is a walk in the park anyway.

As for PSU, if you plan to SLI with a different mobo, I would recommend the 750w XFX psu. It's made by Seasonic, who also make the Corsair ones, and they have a brilliant rep.

Have a look at OCZ and Crucial SSD's too, they tend to be cheaper than the Intel ones with better performance in many applications

Agreed the PSU is Ott, But how far will you expand into the future, i wish my Gaming rig had a massive PSU since when the pc is obsolete i would have migrated the PSU from it to my next build... A PSU will outlive your other pc parts by generations, just make sure its got a lovely warranty... I'd also rethink the Antec 1200, its a good solid case , but not the best, and IMO and i own one, a bit of a pain in the arss, My next build is going to be in the Nzxt Phantom, its ugly to some , but its amazingly well built, please consider other options before commiting Antec, Its a great case, but others newer have trumped it for features and quality

how about the CM 690 II Advanced, read a lot of brilliant/excellent reviews on it and it can fit upto 10 fans :D to keep things nice and cool

And now I feel a little bit silly for not realising that mb wouldn't support SLI but hey thats why I'm posting. I realise the PSU is OTT but my way of thinking is get a bigger one than I need so that I can upgrade down the line and keep the same PSU. Point taken though I really don't need anything like 1000kw!

So if I'm buying the parts seperately and overclocking myself I've pretty much decided I'm going for an i5 and I'm pretty set on the H70 for cooling but I'm open to opinions on the motherboard and RAM. Also would anyone be able to tell me which of the i5 processers is best for overclocking or are they all pretty much the same?

necrontyr - In terms of cases I also like (based on looks, features and reviews) the Antec DF85, any thoughts on this or would you say steer clear of Antec all together?

Im pretty sure Overclockers are kinda reasonable about getting a bundle but customizing it a lil bit, just find a decently priced mobo that does at least 8x 8x pcie then phone your order in and ask em to swap the mobos. Or better yet just buy all the bits individually, it will come out about £50 cheaper, u can cherry pick exactly what you want and the overclock is reasonably easy to sort out plenty of tutorials and folks who will help ya out with that.

And yeh, like everyone's said 1000w is WAY overkill for almost any system even with 2gfx cards you unlikely to need more than 6-700w.

Supposedly, the 6xxx cards being released this month will be slower than the gtx470's, and a similar price point

How can you make this statement when nobody, outside of AMD, in the computer review community has even had the chance to compare these GPU's side by side yet?

Reality check please :)

yep... releasing at the bottom end first instead of mid range as with the 5*** series, and all we have is leaked specs and price points are only a guess or shot in the dark at best

:)

so hes kind of right, as the cards being released this month i expect to be slower than a GTX470 too.

I can tell you now the 6 series launching in coming 3 weeks won't outperform a GTX 470, might come close but not faster and probably not much cheaper if at all.

I was pretty much going off this post in yesterdays 'Today Only' thread. Like was mentioned above, ATI are releasing the low end cards first, and the high end 6xxx will most likely be mid november-ish

thats right Invertigo, you said the "cards coming out this month" which are the low too midrange.

so they wont be faster than a GTX470.

the cards coming in November will be.

so you were correct with your post of

Supposedly, the 6xxx cards being released this month will be slower than the gtx470's, and a similar price point

if you do go for the antec 1200 you could consider the antec cp850 psu, its a craking psu but be aware its only for selected antec cases, the 1200 being one of them
necrontyr why do you rate 1200 so bad? I used to have one myself and found it quite good personally, little tight to work in for a full tower and the fans were a tad loud (easily swapped out though as I did for S12s) when on full but other than that I thought it was a cracking case
