Left my PC on downloading L4D2 updates while I was downstairs, nothing unusual about that.

Came back up, and it sounded different. No hard drive spinning noise, although CPU and case fans were spinning. Odd. Rebooted, nothing. Fans will spin, PC wont boot or even POST the BIOS, no display on monitor.

I've had the HDD and power cables out of it, removed graphics and sound cards, replaced, undone and checked the internal power cables, they're all connected fine.

Same thing when you give it power, it just spins the fans and nothing starts. PC is drawing 37W power from the wall, it normally draws ~100W on boot.

Not had chance to try another PSU as I'm going out, that'll be done first thing tomorrow - but does it sound like a dead board to you? :(

I have no luck with motherboards.

I would say PSU. A HDD should still spin up without any motherboard connections. I know because I have messed around with HDDs without the tops on before.

I had the exact same problem as you and took the whole lot out of the case and even changed the graphics card to an old spare one i had. It turns out the cable behind the monitor had come loose :( what an idiot i felt.

Well technically it wasnt *quite* the same problem, as it sounds like your HDD's still spin, whereas mine dont.

I can imagine the look on your face when you realised though: :D

"Fffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!"

Woo! BIOS reset fixed it :D

No idea why, thought it was worth a shot. Hadn't even tested another PSU in it.

Feel the power of the CMOS reset button :p
