o2 no longer willing to sell me a phone?

About a month ago I rang o2 after a HTC Desire after seeing someone on here had bought one sim free for £285. The lady confirmed what I had read and said I could purchase one for £285 sim free. For whatever reason I didn't buy it at the time but vowed to ring back and take them up on the deal, which a couple of days ago I did.

"I'm sorry sir but we don't sell the Desire direct - you are available for an upgrade though?"

I don't want a new contract. I'm happy with my 30 day rolling monthly simplicity thingy, but what gives? Has anyone recently managed to get one out of o2 directly? I'm currently kicking myself rather hard for not getting it then and there!

Is it because the desire is hardly in stock, so being left for contracts?

Quite possibly, though it was my understanding they were hardly in stock then either. Have they ever been plentifull? :confused:

Buy one sim free unlocked??...plenty of places around selling them and if O2 were selling them off line they hardly are going to be the cheapest

maybe try again in a few days but dont mention about your previous atempt to buy one?just try same conversation as before. unless they log these things on their system ofcourse
