Which is best network switch?

They're all much of a sameness for unmanaged switches, but cisco are a good brand, but I also like Netgear myself, never had a problem with either, but unless you are really on a budget, I would go for a gigabit switch, like ecksmen said.
 
Netgear switches are great until the caps go pop. They've probably started using different caps by now. :)
 
For unmanaged switches, any cheap thing'll do.
I've still got decade old £20 10/100 switches running happily in my network.

Possibly a heat problem as they always used to run very hot. My old GS105 ran so hot I fitted heatsinks to the top surface but my new GS108 runs not a huge amount above ambient temperature.
 
I take it a "unmanaged" switch is basically plug n play ,no need to set any forwarding or ports up ?
 
Managed switches have their own IP address and management console. Typical features include VLANs, protocol and port control.

Port and forwarding are more usually related to routers, but some uber-switches can have similar features.

The caps went after about two years of usage. I replaced 'em and the switch has been going strong for three years. It's situated in the same location and the environment hasn't changed. Googling GS108 capacitor shows a ton of people with the same issue. I think Netgear have probably bucked their ideas up by now.

The TP link range that OC'UK stock are cheaper and offer the same features! Can't see the point in spending extra on yours. I don't think you should be pushing your products on here anyway!
