HTC Desire HD (Ace)

The HD is basically a desire on steroids so yes should be a good phone, the GPU is also a lot faster so should be better for games.

There's some good deals for T-Mobile around so you shouldn't have to leave them.

I had the Vario II then a III before moving back to a normal phone and have the Nokia 6700 Classic now. I fancy going back to a PDA style phone and had a bit play with a mate's Desire ( no jokes please ;) ) and I do like them.

interesting that mobilephonesdirect have changed the working on T-Mobile contracts. Before it said unlimited internet, now they all say 1gb.

Will be interesting to see what happens when we get our deals if we ordered before the change.

What I don't understand is on mobilephonesdirect they are saying order now and get a free 8GB memory card, but the phones come with one anyway, so they aren't actually giving anything away.

Is the Desire HD actually being released on any network other than Vodafone? :/

I've been intermittently checking providers sites and the Desire HD doesn't seem to be making much of an appearance anywhere?

Also, what are sites like mobilephonesdirect like? How do they work? They seem to be offering the phone on networks who don't seem to offer it themselves? Can anyone give me a brief rundown on how these sites operate? Would a contract from them be dealt with directly after that point or through them?

My contract doesn't expire until the 8th of December but Vodafone say I can upgrade now. I've had a look on their website and the deal which I'm looking at is

£99 for the phone
£35 Per month
600 anytime minutes
3000 Inclusive texts
18month contract

As I still have 2 months to run on my contract I assume I'd have to buy out the remainder (currently on £35 a month).

Spoke with vodafone today and as the phone isn't out yet they can't offer me any deals except for the pre-order deals.

Am I better sticking with vodafone or paying up the rest of my contract and getting it free somewhere else? Do they usually put much effort into retaining customers with remaining contract period if they request a PAC code?

She also said it would be out in 2 weeks.

They offered me the same deal but with a free phone.... or £30 per month on 24m contract. Decisions decisions! Was hoping for more like £25pm since i've spent a small fortune per month for the last 6 months!

Vodafone let you upgrade in the last 70 days of your contract. Or you can buy yourself out of your contract if you want to upgrade before the 70 days are close.

Mobilephoenesdirect are just a middle man so to speak, they are a bit like carphone warehouse they just pass you onto the network and you pay the network like you would if you went directly to them, with the added benefit that you can get contracts for networks that aren't planning on stocking the phone, such as O2.

From MPD on Friday:

Today, we can confirm you will still be one of the first customers to receive this amazing new phone.

Yep, both stock grey boxes, which are the unbranded versions of handsets, and sell them along with a sim-only deal for which-ever network. The commission they get from that sim-only sale determines the subsidy they give on the handset or the value of the "free" gift offered.
