hello guys
having serious failure trying to make my mind up on which car i should be getting start of january once i turn 21 and have saved a bit more money

budget is 10,000

i want something that does 0-62 in around the 10 second mark and does 40 ish mpg
been looking at the following
Volvo S40
Vauxhall Insignia
Ford Focus
Ford Mondeo
Mitsubishi Lancer

cant decide at all
any suggestions on those ive named or others i havent named?

Strange set of criteria there

You sound like a young lad wanting to buy something interesting to drive, but then your list reads like the shopping list of your average middle aged family man.

What exactly are you looking for ? does it have to be a family car ?

Your in a right mood tonight arent you fox ? Is there any post of mine tonight you're not going to have a go at ?

To be fair, he has listed some seriously bland cars there? Volvo S40 isnt the choice of a keen driver now is it?

sorry wasnt very specific, want something relativley new ish, bit of grunt for some occasional fun and make motorwaying interesting
like something thats nice to be inside of (no gf jokes please :P)
insurance will come down when im 21 but not that much
doesnt have to be a family car just those are the ones ive been mainly looking at

@ fox i have actually been looking at those as a cheap go between whilst i save for something nicer

Exactly

i put the 0-60 criteria together with the F1 signature and made an assumption that he maybe has more than a passing interest in cars. He may not, but theres no harm in asking is there :)

Yeah, I agree with the Mondeo/Focus recommendation.

It'll cost a lot less than £10K to get a good example of either, leaving plenty for insurance and to spend elsewhere.

10k and you have that sort of list? Agree with fox, you can get what you want for significantly cheaper.

Halve your budget and go from there.
FWIW, you'll never see 40mpg in a petrol Volvo unless you drive like Miss Daisy.

advice taken.
fox has the right idea, just looking for a decent car thats semi-economical
looking at a couple examples of 05 plate mondeos and vectras
leaning towards a mondeo for now with a look towards getting a new mondeo, insignia or 3 series diesel sometime in the new year
not a fan of what a lot might consider 'fun' cars such as hot hatchbacks..not sure why just a reasonable sized saloon has always appealed more to me
might have something to do that i always drive ford focus and bmw 5 series estates for work,
previous cars have been vauxhall astra and fabia estate
