I'm looking for a good gaming mouse. Was thinking of

and

On the razor description it states 'On-The-Fly Sensitivity™ adjustment'. Does anyone have one that can tell me if this means DPI Switching?

I also like the look of the MS one because you can instantly switch sensitivity between high, medium, and low with one click.

I know it's not a lefty, so not to bothered about all the extra buttons, although if any lefties have one any advice would be great.

I've owned a Razer Diamondback for over 6 years, not had any issues at all. The on the fly sensitivity just means you can hold down a mouse button in scroll while in-game and change the mouse sensitivity (speed it moves) not the DPI itself. Never used it myself, I suppose its for serious gamers.

Thanks for the quick response m8.
Oh well scratch the razer then as dpi is a must, getting MOH on steam and I need it for my sniping.

Any lefties out there with the MS SideWinder X8?

Bare in DPI might be changeable... not installed the razer software for sometime! The on the fly sensitivity performs same function as DPI tbh, just tones down the 3500 DPI to something lower but in terms of mouse movement speed rather than the number of DPI read.

I would personally go for the razer, but someone with the microsoft one might be able to defend it's corner.

Im a lefty and I use the razer lachesis (not on sold by OcUK anymore though, guess its been discontinued but its still sold elsewhere) and its pretty much the same as the one you linked, but its ambidextrous, slightly higer max dpi and has dpi up and dpi down buttons before the mouse wheel.

Great mouse in my opinion though some people don't like how long and low it is.

I've got the DeathAdder Lefty mouse, you can switch DPI the drivers have options for '450, 900, 1800 and 3500dpi' It's perfect for a lefty who doesn't want to use his little finger to press hotkeys on any other gamers mouse. I'll definitely be sticking with this one, although admittedly 3500 dpi setting is taking some getting used to with that sort of sensitivity. Edit heres all of the options just in case you're interested.

Can you/how do you change the dpi in-game? Also can you right click with your index finger?

I assume games go off your mouse settings for the DPI, I seem to keep the 3500dpi sensitivity in the games I play (WoW etc) It comes with default settings as reversed, so right hand button is left hand button, and left hand button is right hand button in comparison to a normal right handed or ambidextrous mouse. I have merely switched them back due to the fact I am so used to those settings after 12ish years of using it that way daily.

Yup all the buttons there are configurable (inc the scrolls wheel) to either be a windows mouse button (left(click), right(menu), middle mouse (3) or mouse button 4 or 5 ), a dpi adjuster, a keyboard key or macro.

Yeah, back/forward in Opera for the programmable buttons as default, I have no reason to change that and keybindings in game change via in-game options so I am not sure what else I could use them for in Windows itself and not programs.

Aye I've left all mine as default anyway, the side buttons also work in windows explorer now for back and forward (in win7 atleast) not just opera (good man! :D).

Only thing time I've went from the default is for BC2 as in the in game options there's only one bind for mouse wheel (no up or down) as they expect you to use if for weapon cycling but I've grown used to mwheel up being one item, down being another and then on to side buttons for others, reload or whatever, so for BC2 I've got mw up and down them set to two random keyboard keys which I then mapped in game.

Good thing with the lachesis (can the deathadder?) is that you can set the profile to auto switch upon launching an exe so I don't have to remember each time, shame it doesnt switch back to default when you close the game though.

I've got a Razer Death Adder Left Handed Edition. Nice mouse, though I find that due to the way I hold mice the side buttons are a bit too far forward for my liking. Very smooth, fast and responsive though.

I too have switched the buttons back to the right handed settings - 20 years of mouse use can't be unlearned easily!

imo gaming mouse in this day and age are a gimmick, back when most mice were only 400dpi around 10 years ago sure they were worth it but now days you can get a good quality logitech laser mouse and theres barely any difference in ones performance

Gone through the Razer Diamondback and the Diamondback 3G.

Now using the Steelseries Xai, love it. A lot better than either of the above.

Now you guys are throwing the XAI into the hat, how does the CPI work on the fly? I read that you have to set these manually.

I'm looking for a mouse that's going to get me better results while sniping in the new MOH and so it should be easy for me to switch back and forth quite quickly (as I can be quite clumsy at times and need all the help I can get ;)).

Just seen the price of the XAI, so I'm thinking more towards the Razer Deathadder at the moment. Unless any XAI owners can throw something into the hat to make me scratch my head again. Decisions decisions.

I got an XAI a while ago, took a few days for my hand to get used to the difference from many years of razer use. But once the new shape took affect, I cannot fault the mouse at all. I especially love the middle button for sniping with the config I have. I'm a righty, just giving feed back on the mouse itself - well worth the money.
