Hi all,

been out of hardware for a while, but wanting to setup a mid range gaming machine again.

so is this a good deal ?

Intel Core i5 760
4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Intel H55 Motherboard
ATX Black Gaming Case
750w PSU
£370

I already have HDD and Graphics

Cheers

Unfortunately i dont have any details on that.

Will the make , make too much difference ? Obviously i understand "you get what you pay for" but if you have a good warranty then all is good ?

It could just affect stability if the rails vary wildly as tends to happen if its a cheap one.

You say you have a graphics card already. If you've been out of hardware for a while and its one you have lying around are you sure its up to sratch?

Nobrand PSU's are usually utter tripe, and dont supply the wattage that's written on the side.

Ok, in that case you would be best off assuming that you will have to buy a new PSU. You will also assume that the H55 board is the cheapest around (£60), the case is an el-cheapo (£20) and the RAM is a value kit (£55). Therefore:

CPU - £147
RAM - £55
Mobo - £60
Case - £20

Total worth - £282
Total price - £370

Conclusion - Bad deal

The graphics card i have was donated to me by a friend

It may not be quite up to scratch but hopefully should keep me going for a while
9800 GT PCI-E 1024 DDR3 TV-OUT 2DVI

As for powersupply, i may be ok on that front also as i have one in my old PC that cost me £80 when i bought it 4 yrs ago (any chance this would still be any good ? , unfortunately at work and dont have any details on it)

The full story is , in true "yorkshire man" way i want to get back to playing games with the boys but want to spend as little as possible :)

£400 max ,
I have :
Monitors
Graphics
Hard Drive
at a push a case (case is fine but huge)

Any advice much appriciated.

In that case get a Phenom II X4 955, 4GB of quality branded DDR3 RAM, ASUS or Gigabyte AM3 board, antec 300 case, titan fenrir evo cooler and this PSU (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-002-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497).

If you don't plan on overclocking, please downgrade the cooler to this.

why not get the sapphire 625w modular psu for £46 saves 20 odd quid and if hes not overclocking just use the stock fan, saves another 35 quid.
so in total you save 50 odd quid from andi's spec.

Thanks for the info gents (especially cmndr_andi )

A shopping list is exactly what i was looking for. Unfortunately my budget just got wiped out last night :(

which means i may be back with a very similar thread next month (just incase prices have changed)

Once again thanks for the info.
