Karl Pilkington - An Idiot Abroad

"You get post delivered in that cave... and it always gets there... I can't believe that... even my mail gets lost half the time... and I've got a post code... that's amazed me more than Petra"

He's got a good philosophical point about preferring to be the ugly one looking at all the nice things in the world and appreciating things in life a lot more.

Why is everyone ganging up on dmpoole, yet when he calls you out no one can be assed to find what hes said they cant even link it ...... LAME LAME LAME. None of you would make OcUK Detectives Or your liars really.

Ive got an en suite shed

That was hilarious wasn't it?

Last night's episode did seem a bit more contrived than the others but its no more contrived than the Top Gear episodes where its just them, some cars, and the danger of your choice (and an entire camera crew)

It's one of the funniest things I've seen for a while.

It's all stopped now after being called an idiot and tool for my beliefs.

I watching the 3rd episode at the moment and have to say though I don't think Karl is as clueless as he's portrayed I also don't think he's a creation of Merchant and Gervais.

One thing though, Gervais really comes across as a ****.

I have to agree Gervais is really tedious in these shows, and i'm normally a big fan. They could lose both his and Merch's 'phonecalls' and it would be no worse off. It's like they're worried Karl will steal the limelight so they need to constantly remind the viewer that this is all down to them.

I don't think he's an idiot either but he isn't the sharpest tool in the box and I'm certain he isn't playing a character.

Elliot- I stood up for him... however I may have been the only one.

he does daft things and emphasises them because he knows people find it funny

hes the same as the class idiot/joker who aces all his tests but acts dumb because it gets him attention

sean locke has a similar comedic style but without constantly calling himself an idiot

To be honest dmpoole I'm not completely disagreeing with you. I don't think Karl is actually an idiot, and I haven't said he is, I think he's just a normal guy who has an amusing outlook on the world and has a knack for showing that up on radio and tv. Where I take umbrage is with the idea that the whole thing is a con, that he's a professional comedian and that his career has been a carefully orchestrated lie, which is what some of your posts seem to imply.

Sorry if I caused you offence by calling you a tool, I didn't think it was that bad of an insult, especially from a stranger on an internet forum :p

Anyway, I hope I made my position clear and that's the last I'll say on it.

As for the actual show... I really enjoyed the first episode, but frankly the second and third have been a bit of a let down. Watching Karl constantly bitch and moan for 45 minutes really isn't that entertaining, the first episode was more along the lines of Karl being in awe of how different things were in China, and I found that a lot better to watch. Hopefully as the series goes on his perspective will change a bit and he might actually start enjoying himself and go back to giving amusing commentary on other peoples way of life.
That's assuming we are being shown the episodes in the order in which they were filmed, which I really can't tell.

That's a pretty decent example for the point you're making. I really like Sean Locke, pretty much everything he touches turns to gold but it's a shame there's people who still don't know about him.

15 Storeys High is an utterly amazing comedy (shame there's only two seasons). If there's anyone reading this who hasn't seen it, try and watch one episode and I guarantee you'll be hooked.
