Hay all ok. Iv just joined this site as i think theres some pros out there that can help me.
Im new to overclocking cpu's so you will have to bare with me if i come accross a bit of a noob.
Before i explain my problem i will list my hardware i used to build my gaming rig that i have been running for just under a year as this is to help assist in you guys helping:
Case: Antec 900
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP43-DS3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quod Q9550
Memory: Samsung PC2-6400 (400 MHz) 8GB In Total (I know its not brillient)
Graphics: ATI Radeon Sapphire HD 4850 x 2 Crossfired
CPU Cooler: Coolmaster TX2 (upgarding to watercooled at end of month)
Ok I think thats all you will need to know. Now to explain my problem.
A week or 2 ago i found out my Intel CPUs can be overclocked to 4.2Ghz (being that you have supreme cooling ect) but as im still running air cooled i wanted to overclock my PC a lot lower than that to a stable condition.
So i succeded in overclocking it 3.40GHz from its factory 2.83Ghz and ran 2 worksheets on prime 95 for 11 hours with real temp monitoring and the avarage temp was 75 Degrees woth no errors. So all is well with that overclock and it runs nicely.
Now. With the cooling i have atm i feel i could easyly run it at 3.80GHz. So i got into bios to start making adjustments to set the CPUs at 3.80GHz. Once im happy with the settings i save and restart. BUT i get a DOUBLE BOOT meaning in Gigabyte terms the overclock has failed and restarts its to stock which is at 2.83Ghz.
I open CPU-Z once windows has started and. yes its booted to stock. So i restart into bios and its set at 3.80GHz.
So to summerise i can overclock from stock (2.83GHz) to a safe 3.40Ghz BUT i cant get any higher 3.80GHz not even 3.60Ghz when i try it double boots to stock.
What am i doing wrong?
Please help
Many Thanks
Paul
