2010 Evo Tyre Test - now with added KU31.

I agree. But the pre-test concencous was that premium tyres are pointless as this tyre was as good. It isnt.

Can't say I have seen that being said anywhere.

I've never took tyre reviews as gospel, ever since I read a review on the GSD-3's and put a set on an Impreza - jesus - worst mistake ever.

OT but longevity is something rarely touched upon and it's a big factor. The PS2's on the back of my 325 lasted 22,000 miles of hooliganism. Yes they are insanely expensive and yes I could have got something half the cost but I very much doubt those at half the cost would have lasted 11,000 miles.

Seems very few people buy a tyre with even a fleeting thought about how long it's going to last. Potentially the mid range stuff could end up costing more than the premium tyre per mile. Then again i can accept the reverse could be true.

I haven't seen anyone write that on here

In 15", no tyre is bank breaking expensive anyway, I went with them after reading good things about them when used on my car.

nobody said they were pointless

we were disagreeing with your sentiments that buying anything other than the winning tyre was penny pinching and asking for an accident !

Exactly, the review proves it's not the ditch finder that Fox always makes it out to be

Always? You mean in this thread.

If last place is your bag then enjoy I guess.

Last place in a select test in a size that most people will never purchase. Awesome fox :)

I have these KU31's on my car now, seem fine to me. Never had to use them properly and hopefully never will, miles better than whatever came with the car and were a very good price. Would buy them again for a non-performance car.

They are all available across a range of sizes

I'm not saying that they aren't available in other sizes. I am saying that they tested 1 size. That 1 size being bigger than most people will ever purchase.
If the test was done with 15 or 16" alloys, the prices would be much closer. If the results were the same then it would make the Kuhmo's even better in terms of value.

Surely most of us run 17s and above, I for one don't really care about 15s, it was a performance tyre test anyway

You didn't pick the best value when you bought your car, not sure why value has suddenly become priority 1?

I posted this on a forum of enthusiasts not the fiesta owners section of a consumer group :p

I think an S2000 with Kumhos would still outbrake most cars regardless of what road tyres they are on. All of you are fools for having cars without optimum braking!!!!

;) (Just in case)

So? A lot of the better performing cars are on 16" or smaller.

On a bumpy road you are likely to have better stopping distances on 15" tyres due to 'generally' a high profile. 17"/18" will be low profile and not offer the compliance to allow maximum contact with the road.

These scenarios are all so dependant on several factors that you can't just assume that a car with the shortest stopping distance in one set of conditions (the wet in this case) is the safest.

And 19" alloys / tyres are known for being the optimum for performance? I thought it was smaller.
I thought most cars come with bigger wheels these days because thats what people like.
