I know how difficult it can be over taking in slow no pwered cars as I drive my mums 1.8 D 205.

Even overtaking HGV on the motorway takes a lot of time and space.

Maybe you wanted him to slate the car as it would have been the green flag for your internet rage - but ironically the only place he slated the car was in your head.

Tottaly agree with this.

My Partner has the same car and 1.2 engine. these things have the crappest gearboxes ontop of a small engine. My 1.2 fiesta fair enough its a 16v so has a whole whopping 8v more has a fair bit more poke than the punto and I would still seriously think twice about a 2 car take.

Punto gearbox= as much excitement and go as an elastic band made of spaghetti

Either way. 2 car overtake is not big or clever in any car. IMO. I wouldn't consider doing it on the bike. Yes I have in the past but now know how easy it is for car one to suddenly pull out

Forget the larger capacity engine and more cylinders, i think he would have been fine with just the BMW badge. It adds at least 100bhp.

Although i have heard a rumour that ///M3 or ///M5 badges combined with "the power resistor of justice" add 150bhp...

The driver is clearly at fault. However, don't forgot that the car he was overtaking accelerated when going downhill which ****ed things up a bit. OP's mate still should have backed off though.

Glad he's ok and has taken this as a learning experience

How is the car being used not a factor when safely overtaking 2 cars?

Its a factor but the car doesnt make a decision to overtake does it, the person driving it does

Yeah I said the BMW in response to what he said to me yesterday, how come this guy gets away with saying and doing what ever he likes yet others others get castrated as soon as they dare respond?

No, the driver was at fault. But in the process of discussing the events someone mentioned that overtaking 1 car in a 1.2 Punto was a feat, let alone 2. I used to have one - i know how slowly they move and how much open road you need to overtake. Then, you bought up BMW's.

Has everybody else here missed the point that the OP's friend did nothing wrong? the guy in the pug sped up when he pulled alongside, if he had held his speed like he should the OP's friend would have passed him and pulled in safely, instead the OP's friend had no choice but to try and accelerate past and swerve in before the oncoming car hit him.
