They will be broadcasting the claustrophobic journey in the capsule at around 12.15am on the BBC news channel for anyone interested. I think each journey lasts about 20 minutes, the capsule moving at 3 metres a second, and they've fed the miners a liquid diet in preparation.

lets hope they don't resemble a

after 2months underground

Hopefully I can watch this tonight. Would love to see them make it out.

Although I've heard stories of companies like Rayban offering them sunglasses to wear on the way out as a bit of free advertising. Not sure that's appropriate really! Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Yes looks like I got that wrong. But it will lift up to 1m/sec according to this report.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ers-first-rescue-capsule-test-is-success.html

"The liquid food enriched with potassium and magnesium should prevent nausea as the capsule spins 350 degrees some 10 to 12 times through the 28-inch diameter shaft at a speed of up to one metre per second.
The biggest worry is that the men may suffer panic attacks, said Mr Manalich."

edit: lol, correction again, 1m/sec just for the spinning I think, so yeah, maybe just 0.5m/sec for the lifting.

3m/s would be to quick! I heard it takes a hour each

An hour per person

that includes loading them in, and then sorting the cage out at the top.

Says it will take 15-20mins to get them up but also 15-20mins to load them in securely then the rest is checking the cage at the top and sending it back down.

Don't know about specific offers from companies but they are going to get sun glasses to protect them from the light. (2 months in dark is a while).

So have they all been bumming each other yet or what?

I'll bet my shirt that they'll cash in on their stories when Hollywood wants to make a film out of it. Like a sort of underground fusion of A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Brokeback Mountain.

You would have thought diazepam and diphenhydramine might be better than food...

They are going to be writing a book about it jointly, and have all pledged never to speak of what happened during the first 17 days.

...iiiiinteresting.

They obviously thought that they were done for, so the thought of, "well, may as well try <insert deviant activity here> now then!" came into their heads. :D

I'm pretty sure they havn't been in complete darkness, there is vehicles down there which they have been using to move th debri that the driliing has caused.

Also i read that they setup a light area to help the miners keep a day/night pattern.

Nasa scientists have been sorting that out etc etc
