Do you think i have a point ? (Virgin Media)

Have you actually called them to discuss it?

I think you'll be disappointed with the email reply - they won't change anyone's account over email - if you're lucky they may call you to discuss it, if not they'll just tell you to call in anyway.

Unless your on fiberoptic, you have to pay line rental to someone, if you want internet.

That's why I stay on virgin. One bill and it works great. Even if I found it elsewhere for £2.99, by the time I'd paid for a line to be installed and line rental, I'd still only be saving pennies

I was paying £11 more than what a new customer was for the same package, get intouch with retentions and ask them to lower the cost to what you would be paying if you were a new customer and they will.

How did you get that deal then?

Previously the cheapest was £12.50 or £7.50 for mobile customers, now the cheapest is something like £8 but that's got a 20GB cap on it, not unlimited

I'm guessing that's standard ADSL / without a mobile contract discount

Been with NTL/Virgin for about 10 years,my wife phoned up in Feb 09(the bill is in her name,he he),to sort a package out,and though we were on 10meg bb,they upped it to 20,with a new 12 month contract period.Still on it now at £25.00.

The old pricing was £12.50 or £7.50 for 8Mb Unlimited.

The new pricing is £13 or £8 for 20Mb capped at 20GB.

I've no idea how he's got 8Mb unlimited for a fiver, it's certainly not a standard deal.

Like its been posted, it's in your contract so they don't have to lower it for you. However, when I was with virgin I was constantly getting refunds/free stuff/being upgraded, just argue with them enough lol :D

Their pricing system is non existent.
Phone up and hope you get through to someone with half a braincell, tho seeing as they are nearly always Scottish, this is a problem. Next step is to whine just enough with just enough accuracy that they force themselves to cut the price.

I have some ludicrous discount on my account from about 6 years ago -£25 a month and its only just now that their new customer deals are caching up.

You really must get through to the right person. If you dont, phone again

when it was first released, called them and was offerd this deal. well over 18 months ago now

it's not as simple as charging you less, I would know I used to work there.

legally they aren't obliged to change it as you entered into a contract with them and they try to keeps this. The only way the csr's (that was my role) can do it is by adding the new package on and cancelling the old one. which is fine but it can only be cancelled when the contract is over. only cancellations can cancel early when within contract.

I had to explain to the customers many a time that I literally didn't have the tool to downgrade them as the option to offer the cheaper service wasn't on the screen to activate, despite knowing full well it was there.

note that this was back in 2005 under NTL so 5 years later I should hope they changed their systems!

You signed a contract to pay a rate, now others have been offered a different rate. By all means ring them, but they are probably under no obligation to lower your bill

Don't be daft.

If that's the case they'll definitely be under no obligation to lower his bill.

Worth a try, but don't get your hopes up if you're still within the original term of the contract.

No, I don't think you have a point. You sign a contract for 12months at x-price. Most services get cheaper over time. Lots of people complain about virgin. Yet I haven't seen anyone complain about mobile phone contracts which substantially reduce in price over 12months. Also if you phone up you can usually barter something, if your near the end, but you'll redraft a new 12month contract.

As for adsl being cheaper
A) a lot of people can not get advertised speeds on Adsl, I'm on 50mb virgin, but adsl I would have a max of 3.5mb.
B) higher speeds aren't even available on adsl.
