Which sites should I browse to find the best deal on an Insignia VXR. I'm not after Vauxhall hate or fighting my corner for the car i've chosen to get or anything. The only 3 places I know of are Piston Heads, Auto Trader and Ebay. I'm also not looking to pay more then £18k if I can help it, dont want automatic and has to be low mileage (under 10k if poss).

Any ideas where to look?

You want to buy a £30,000 car thats been out less than a year with low mileage for under £18k?

Your budget is thousands of pounds less than the trade value of the oldest possible car with 10,000 miles.

I think you need to get more money or lower your expectations somewhat.

If it was possible it means this car would have lost £12,000 in under a year. Why would anyone with a brain wish to sink £18k into a car with depreciation this savage? It'd be worth only £10k a year later! lol

I think you'll be lucky to get one for £18k. Cheapest I can find in the country is £20k although that one seems to be an exception with the majority at £24k+

When you find out could you let me know too please :)

Yea let me know as well, I'd happily buy a sub 10k mile Insignia VXR for under £18k, so I could immediatly resell it for more than £20k.

I've found one for £19,500 locally but he didnt want to go lower and had 20,000 miles.
I figured if one is £19,500 then with a bit of haggle I may get £18k if i'm lucky :)

I will pay up £20k if needed though :(

You could get pre registered ones for 23k. But its not a massive seller, so there are never going to be massive quantities of them 2nd hand around.

I'd skip it however

A)because it doesnt sound as nice as the VXR8
B)because like the Vectra VXR its going to depreciate like a trooper. Dealers had to discount it by 10 just to shift the things new
C)its still got the same V6 as the vectra VXR, with all the tuning problems that comes with it it
D)It doesnt feel that fast

Personally ? I'd either get a VXR8, or if the running costs scare you, then get an Insignia 2.0T SRI with the XP pack. The 2.0T in the insignia is the same unit as is going in the next Astra VXR. Its vastly under tuned as standard, and an exhaust + remap will see 300bhp from it.

Here we go, Pre Registered with 10 miles on the clock

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1664745.htm

23k.

List price for that car is over 10k. Its going to depreciate just like the Vectra did. Expect it to be worth under 15k before it reaches 2 years old.

If you are willing to spend 20k however

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2115935.htm

Turn up, offer £19,000 and work your way up from there. May be able to get under 20k if you're lucky and catch them needing an end of the month sale.

Or just buy something decent like a Merc C350. Serously, £20k is proper money, no need to be buying Vauxhalls here.

i was behind a C350 down the single lane A roads in norfolk.

I can vouch for their overtaking prowess, loads of grunt !

Ridiculously, and I mean ridiculously, rare cars though. 99.9999% are diesel. The C350 has a suprisingly powerful engine as well.

272bhp and 260 lb/ft though

Almost exactly the same as the Vectra VXR.

Inside line timed it at 14.5 down the 1/4 mile which is the same as the vectra VXR too. And the VXR wasnt slow either.

I had noticed that & was thinking about it.
I phoned them earlier today & they said they wouldn't drop below £20k.

Problem is, i'm working solidly for the next 2 weeks so just turning up will have to wait. However if it's still there in 2 weeks time I probably will just turn up.

Does this mean there is no where else to check for deals?

I dont even think thats enough for a sub 10k miler. They retail at £22k+.

To be honest though, I know you've said youve made your mind up, but.. why?

Of all the cars to spend £20,000 on...

Because i've test driven it & loved it.
Also I like Vauxhall, I know no one else here does, however I trust them & know where I stand with them. When you've been in an 80mph head on crash in one with minimal injuries then they earn your trust. I've also not seen a single bad review of it & enjoy a powerful car (more then twice the power of any car i've had) :)

I'd rather spend £20k on the VXR then £16k on the normal SRI version. I would just waste the £4k difference on something I dont need anyway so I may as well get the best one :)

You are not going to get the 'deal' you want - you are trying to buy a car for thousands of quid less than its trade value, give up, it wont happen! Why would somebody sell you a sub 10,000 mile 1 year old car with a list price of 30k for £18k?

Because Dealers are knocking them out for 23k to try and shift them ?

lol do you know nothing about bargaining ? :D

Of course they are going to say that on the phone. By ringing up and asking "whats your best price" you just sound like every other deluded looser that rings up about cars that they have no intention or the means to buy.

If you want to start haggling, arrange a test drive, go down, meet the salesman and get to know him. Then push him till he cries like a baby. If he doesnt choke, walk away and give him your number. Do actually call his bluff and leave and see if he calls back. Which he will Because its a VXR, and the last dealership that had 2 vectra VXRs on the forecourt, still had the 2nd one, 6 months after they sold mine. And they had already knocked £500 of mine to try and sell it. And then i argued some more on top of that. And my car was only slightly more than half that price. Of course they will knock £500 off, if you play the game.

As for other deals, this is a rare car. To give you an idea they only made 1000 vectra VXRs, and that was in a 4 + year production run. Thats what ? 250 cars a year ? cars not even been on sale a year yet. You cant expect all 250 owners to sell straight away. There are a few places you can look. 1) autotrader, 2) pistonheads, 3) vauxhall network Q website. The car is too new to be at independant dealers in plentifull supply yet. The dealers dont even have a steady stream of used stock so the trade auctions wont either. Any cars you are likely to find 2nd hand will be at a vauxhall dealer. And they are unlikely to advertise outside of the above websites, and if they do, it will usually include the abovementioned methods as well.

If you want a bargain, you're either A) going to have to fight for it and go down there and play hardball, or B) wait for 6 / 12 months more used stock to appear. By which time the price will most probably have halved by then.
