Patiently waiting for OS6 on the 9700, not a fan of the slider 9800. I've found the builds of berries pretty good my bold has had a few drops and still in tact and looks as good as I first bought it.

Well just found out that my lovely gorgeous fiancee has bought me a new 9800 torch sim free today...says its an early bday pressie:p...well early as my bday isnt until the 27th of Oct as it is.

Not sure if ill keep it or sell it on as im quite fond of my 9700 at the moment but im interested to see if its any better than the pre-dev 9800 that i had to play with back in August...hopefully the firmware will be much more bug free.

@ Spawn.

Looking forward to a little review (or at least your views) as I'm thinking of upgrading to the 9800, I had a little feel @ Phones 4 u this morning, but I could not get to play with it properly as the sales assistants attitude was appalling.

Well if im lucky ill have it by fri...shes already got it but wont give it to me till my bday so am trying to convince her to give it to me early.

I played with a pre dev device back in Aug and i thought it was solidly built although over time the slider mech will loosen up...as for the software?? well the one i had on the pre dev was a beta version of OS6 so was pretty glitchy and buggy.

Saying that if i do get it fri then ill report back with my opinions...not really sure if ill keep it or sell it and stick with my trusty 9700.

I look forward to hearing your view on it!

So far I've only heard from people on Crackberry and the reviews have been good, however it is a dedicated blackberry so there's room for bias (even though it seems to be a pretty good forum in that sense, the new Bold seems to be getting a lot of flack on it, they don't seem to impressed).

Well, im planning to buy a 9800 too, because, blackberry is surely not as delicate as iDevices, which is quite compatible with me. The reviews I have been very encouraging. But I would like to wait for enough feedback to convince me for the purchase.

I'm confused about the new 9780 Bold. According to Crackberry RIM have no official word on it and haven't mentioned it. At the phone convention recently there was also no sign of it. Yet it's supposedly going to be released in a few weeks. There's speculation that they aren't going to make a big fuss about it as they don't want to take any attention away from the Torch and just release the 9780 Bold as a 9700 refresh, as really, there's not much difference between the two.

Hmmmm.. that's the phone I'm waiting for.. just hope it is released soon.

Hopefully seeing the fiancee later today so should have my 9800 torch in the next few hrs...

As for the 9780...its just an updated 9700 ie more RAM, 5mp camera along with OS6 built into it.

Still nothing regarding release dates but i would imagine it will be out later this month or even early november...Voda have put up tariffs for the 9780 even though its not been released yet...dont know if thats a **** up on their part or what....Virgin mobile in Canada i think are saying they are stocking it from Oct 21st according to crackberry.

Well got my torch, posting on it right now....wow is about as much as I can say at the moment....much much better than the pre dev device I had back in Aug courtesy of my brother.

Have to say with the latest Os on it....246 this is a much much better device....touchscreen is superb, very responsive.....RIM have really stepped up to the plate with the 9800....OS6 is very nice. Its snappy and responsive altho at the moment I haven't got any apps on it...ill suppose ill know for sure if its laggy or not. On screen keyboard is nice but lack any sort of haptic feedback which hopefully they might add later. The hardware keyboard is superb as well as usual...the device feels very solid and even now typing with the keyboard out the device feels nice in the hand.

Anyhow if anyone has any questions then please ask and ill do my best to answer. Have to say the 9800 will probably replace my 9700 as my main BB device.

Does it retain the 3.5mm earphone socket?

Looking forward to my upgrade although on o2 and upgrade is not due until January but my Director is pushing to get them earlier.

That's good to hear.

Does the slider wiggle? Is it loose? That's the most common problem I've heard with it.

Yep has a 3.5mm socket.

There is a slight wiggle but ti be honest its hardly noticeable. I think slot of people are just anal about it....its a solidly built device as far as I'm concerned. Mine is Sim free unlocked which my fiancee paid £480 for it. Expensive but worth it imo

How are you finding it now you've got some use, put much apps on it? if so, much lag? and how is the battery life?

Got over 20 or so apps on it at the moment...not much lag tbh...sometimes i get the hourglass icon but i got that with my 9700 as well...its not an issue for me in all honesty.

Battery life is not as good as the 9700, comparing my useage with the 9700 to the 9800, i would say the 9700 has a better battery life...i get a good days use out of my 9800 but i charge it every night whereas with the 9700 i could get a good 2 days use before charging....i suppose with the OS6 and touchscreen the battery life is affected. But in a nutshell the battery life isnt as good as the 9700.

Do i prefer the 9800 to my 9700??...yes without a doubt, dont think i will be going back to my 9700 anytime soon...in fact when i can be bothered ill be putting it up for sale, the 9700 that is.

Thanks for your feedback, I got this phone through shortly after my post this morning although I haven't got around to opening it yet. Truth be told I was looking at the android phones until the retentions guy suggested this one, I haven't tried blackberry before so I'm wary.

I'm coming across from a HTC Touch HD, so I reckon the performance should be greater than Windows mobile at least :)

The price they offered is what caught me, when compared to everywhere else anyway. 24 month contract (:/) free phone, 20 quid a month, including the mobile internet, and additional 500meg mobile broadband (worth another 5 quid a month) for some reason. Seems like a good deal, although I imagine its full of branding/network lock which is a resale turn-off I guess.

Still, I'll give it a go :D

Yeh for Blackberries you need a special data plan called a BIS or as networks call it blackberry email...it usually costs about £5 extra a month.

It will be a world of difference from windows mobile...much more stable as a platform and can be easily customised ie themes etc.

No harm in giving it a go...i guess you get 7 days cooling off period so if you dont find it to your liking then you could always get something else...another BB is the 9700 which is a pretty good handset, ive used mine for a yr or so now but only drawback to the 9700 is that it uses OS5 whereas the torch uses OS6 which is newer...but rumors are that the 9700 will get a version of the OS6 soon.

Had one since Tuesday, had a Bold 9700 before and loved it.

Hated both the storms, so was apprehensive on this, but since work is buying :p

Love it! better than the Bold, way better than the Storm as it has a proper touch screen. The screen isnt as good as the iphones, but it does the job nicely, battery life whilst being used a fair bit is 2 days, so not too bad.
Mind you the 9700 had a battery twice the size, and used to last 4 days easily, whilst being used a lot at work.

OS6 is much more slick, and easy to use, but still has the classic BB feel.

Get one, they are one of the best Blackberrys so far.
