When we rang up earlier tonight to ask for some information on the price and availability of the cable in our area the woman said we could get it installed in a few days. I held off my flatmate booking it on the phone as we could get £65 through Quidco.

When I ordered it, the earliest booking time was a whole month in advance. How come sooooo far ahead. That sucks the woman said a few days and then the internet says 30 days.

How far would you reckon I get if I rang them tomorrow to find out if they can do it earlier ?

It must depend where you are and how busy they are in particular areas.

Where I am has only just been cabled with Fibre and I had to wait almost a month for my 50mb to be installed 2 weeks ago.

i know your pain guys, i booked VM broadband a week and a half ago and they're still not coming until the 18th.

not having any internet sucks. my browsing has been effectively reduced to the dial-up days.

LOL

i hate to rub in in, but ive had to wait less than a week, muahahahahaha ;)

its probably a case of if you do it online it takes longer but you do get better deals and such but if you do it over the phone it'll take a week or so but you'll maybe pay more. seems that way to me anyway.

I think so, yeah. May depend on the area and how good the signal is.

Not just area, the wiring between you and the street box and what position you are connected to on the street box.

From memory every street box has a number of connections that are available, with some starting with a higher strength than others (to allow for longer runs to the house, or more devices).

Hence it isn't quite as easy as just plugging the new box/modem in if the new one is significantly different to the old one (and 50mb and V+ are both effectively multi tuner devices that require all the tuners to be able to lock on to work properly).

I think someone on the cable forum posted some pics of a generic NTL street box with some of the different parts labelled, and IIRC some of the connections are much higher output than others:)

You could phone VM up and say you want a refund for the month for which you won't actually be able to use your internet. That should get some kind of reaction.
