£120 for a pre owned Elite, with Fifa 11.

£210 for the new xbox, with Fifa 11.

Apart from the HDD increase what's the advantage of buying the new one?

Built in wifi
ready for kinect
Slimmer
gloss black
Touch sensitive buttons
Optical out built in

About it really... Depends on if you want to save £100 etc... Or you need the features of the new slim.

Think it runs with a little less power as well.

Wi fi, don't have it at uni. Might be useful at home though..
Kinect, gimmick? Doubt I'll ever buy it.
Slimmer, meh.
Gloss black, lol.
Touch sensitive, buttons still do the same job :p
Opitcal out?

While it's quite a saving, I'd avoid buying a console second hand especially a 360.

Could be banned from Live, be close to RRoD, ect.

There we go. However, this is from a reputable retailer. Surely gone through tests for such things?

I have one of the later elites myself it's been repaired 4 times in a year and that was bought new less than a year ago

No improvement over the launch day units tbh get a slim or a ps3 gt5 out in a couple of weeks woot

Hopefully they'd have tested it online, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

As for the RRoD, there's no test to see if it's close. It might happen a week, a month, or six months down the line and you'd have to go through the hassle of getting it replaced.

Sorry when I posted this I was giving the differences between the two consoles, and didn’t actually provide anything of use in terms of is it a good idea to buy a second hand xbox360.

Basically, buying a second hand xbox360 is about as safe as bare backing a five dollar prostitute. You really do not know what you’ll be getting; xbox360 isn’t regarded as the most robustly built pieces of kit.

Anyhow, sorry for my vague response but then if I’d bothered to read your opening post a little better, I’d have maybe provided more useful information.

nope, the date has been pushed back.

personally, i'd just get the cheaper new slim and put my own hard drive in it (assuming you can do this) sata hard drives are so cheap these days, and its also matte black.

I just picked up a 120Gb Elite from the same place the OP was no doubt thinking of.

£120 for it with FIFA 11, walked accross the road and got £30 cash for FIFA 11, which makes the console effectively £90..

I got the newest they had (less then a year old), they show you the security seal, give you 28days return policy, and I may have even thought they said 12 months warranty (not too bothered, I'd badger MS for RROD anyway)..

The last of the old models only had a 150W PSU, this means less heat generated by the CPU/GPU as they moved to a smaller process which uses less power and therefore produces less heat, and judging by my own experiences, this greatly reduces the chance of RROD by a huge factor.

I was going to get a 60Gb for effectively £65 using the same method, it's just for the kids/front room anyway, but with installing games to the HDD being nice, I went for the larger HDD..

you cant just throw any old sata hdd it has to microsofts, either a 20gb, 60gb,120gb or 250gb.

They seem to have unofficial S cased 250GB drives on the famous Hong Kong online store for $57 so I should imagine case shells won't be far off.

got my xbox 360 HP with free games and a spare wired controller from the bay for £155 21 months ago,, ive only had to send it for repair once ever since. even though the owner said its out of warranty, when i phoned microsoft they gave me a 1 year free warranty which should expire this month as it was october last year when i sent it for repair :D
