First things first, this post isn't a dig at anyone and I'll almost certainly have worded it badly and it'll get misinterpreted. I'm interested in gathering opinions. I know some of you have dyslexia as well, so don't take offence. Everyone else: please keep it nice ;)

Onto the thread topic...

Presumably, those of you who can't spell or handle your grammar must know who you are. It's you I'm interested to hear from most :)

When I see a post full of spellink and grammer mistakes it sticks out at me like a sore thumb. I'll occasionally make a typo but it's purely that; it's not because I don't know. If you can't spell, can you see the difference between a well spelled and grammatically correct post and one that isn't? It's interesting that sometimes when you see a badly spelled post, it is written the way that person might speak their post out loud in their regional accent, as if they don't know what the real word is.

I think this has come from the fact that I think I have a fairly neutral accent when I speak. Put me in with people locally and they comment that I speak with a posh accent. Put me in with people who are in fact posh, and they will say I sound common :p

I'm interested to see if it's the same, visually, with written language.

Y i man.

Just kidding. I've always wondered about this and why people who cannot spell don't simply use a spell checker like myself.

Spell checkers have actually made my spelling worse because now I don't think about how to correctly spell difficult words. I type, go back and autocorrect. I noticed how much I rely on this when handwriting a note the other day...I was gutted when I couldn't right click to check my spelling and grammar...then I was disgusted with myself. LOL

you will only spell something how you think its spelt, so most people will think their spelling is correct... and probably not know its wrong until told?

Would work if spelling was phonetic but, alas, it's not ;) Standardised spelling means there are mistakes and personally I find it very annoying :D

*mutters away in corner like old man...

So for example, did you notice that you didn't capitalise your first letter or put an apostrophe in? Do you know where the apostrophe has to go?

To be honest, I simply don't care enough to check what I write on forums. I know how english works and obviously when writing essays for my degree I wrote properly and double checked all the spelling and grammar.

On here...who cares

I will be the first to admit i am terrible at spelling and grammar.
Its not that i cant be bothered to write properly its that i just cant
seem to write whats going through in my head. I dont post my
opinions as much as would like as they normally get ripped to peaces
my some on here.

I'm in the same boat. I have the northern vowel sounds in my speach, but apart from that identifier, I have a very neutral accent. So you can tell I'm from the north, but not from where!

It's actually very difficult to write with perfect grammar and spelling. I'd never pick up on anyone's spelling or grammatical mistakes unless they were writing in text-speak, or it was very difficult to read and it was obvious that they couldn't be bothered to check their post.

chrome tells me, however I have ie6 at work... I know my gramma and spelling is bad, I use it as a benchmark, anyone I think has bad spelling or gramma must just be thick its the only possible way they can be worse than me...

I should have a D for english language and E for english lit from school.... however by cheating I managed to up the grades to C/C....

chrome is good I chrome is my friend.... red underline = bad....

I think most people don't know and don't care.

It doesn't help that English is an incredibly stupid language, with no real structure or rules, particularly when it comes to spelling.

Personally, it annoys me when people say "to" when they mean "too".

E.g. "I completed that big to!" fuuuuuuuuuuuu
