built up a new rig from here about 3-4 weeks ago.

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920
Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C8 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 "AVP Edition" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express

i've got a
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B CPU Cooler with an Akasa AK-FN058 Apache Black Super Silent 120mm Fan to cool the CPU down.

the lot is supplied by a Tagan BZ 1300W Piperock PSU in an XClio case with pretty good cooling.

The problem

a few days ago i was playing CounterStrike Source and a few times during the game i noticed the screen flicker for a split second with lines down the screen top to bottom. it happened a few times but then not again.

i do tend to leave my rig turned on 24-7 so i know things may be warm but they should be being cooled enough to do this.

i actually turned the rig off last night. this morning, went to turn on: -

i got scrambled parts of the screen on windows 7 start-up and then the picture went off. i pressed reset as it appeared to have locked. then i got no bios beep. no mouse/keyboard and i couldn't hear the Raptor hard drives working but all the board was lit.

i have no idea why i did it but i took the graphics card out, looked at it, scratched my head, farted & put it back. it all booted up fine after that

it WAS in correctly before, it wasn't loose and all power leads & output leads were in fully. does anybody know if this sounds like the old problem ATi used to have with the stock cooler being cr4p? or does it sound like it's a faulty card?

ok, here's the novice coming out: -

as this system is so new to me i have no idea where to find these things you ask. i am going to guess you mean in the bios? please put me right though and i'll post what you ask. (not forgetting this was from a cold start)

thanks for the replies so far.

thanks for that, i've installed that program. got the screenshot but there's no function to upload an image on here. i've not installed my V-media webspace yet so i can't upload it there. can't remember the old imageshack account.

bear with me i'll try and post it else where and link it.

hmm, on a side note, i have recently read a little about "lapping". looking at those core temps i am surprised to see them at different temps. does that suggest it's not being evenly cooled?

ok with the game being played for 10 mins and still running in the background this was what it said: -
