I still am not happy with the speed in some parts of Metro!

2 GTX480s and it still drops in the 20s and 30s FPS sometimes!

I play at 1920x1080 with 4xaa + Physx on and everything on full.

What is going on?

Metro2033 scales very well with SLI, so that won't be the issue.

Disable depth of field, and you will see a huge improvement in framerates. Disabling tessellation will net you a decent improvement in certain areas as well. Also, try the "AAA" antialiasing option.

With the above you will be able to maintain a very good, playable framerate. The depth of field is the real killer, and isn't implemented very well anyway.

I would turn off tesselation tbh as from what i have seen it does not add anything noticable in metro bar a drop in fps. Dof as said above also has a big hit on fps and some say it actually makes the game look worse.

Do you have your gtx480's overclocked? If not you could probably gain the extra performance you seek to get the frames you need.

He's probably after 100% better peformance <in certain areas> judging by the sound of it. Will be years before there are cards on the market able to run this game perfectly at 1080P.

Tesselation just doesn't make a difference, it takes a screen shot and a bit of careful observation to notice most of the time while in action its completely not noticeable. Turn it off, DOF is worse, for me its pretending to be a cool effect and in reality makes IQ worse, why buy £700 of graphics cards and blur out 2/3rd's of the screen real estate, most ridiculous option in a game.

Just because its an option doesn't mean its "better", I always go back to this example but soft shadows looked like utter turd in Fear, it raped performance and people enabled it, complained about the performance and complained about how it looked.

Turn off DOF, see more of the screen in detail, win win, turn off Tesselation see a higher framerate and little to no other difference.

480gtx's in sli in Metro without the "Fermi launch must kill AMD options" turned on runs pretty great, you should be averaging WAY WAY above 60fps with mins mostly above 45-50fps at a guess.

A single 5850 is something like 12-15fps min's with a 30 average, its horrible, with dof/tess on, with both off its closer to 30fps min and a 45-50fps average, completely different experience in smoothness, and looks better.
