My Golf - Update thread

I would tend to agree tbh lots of skinny jeans, nike high tops and cuddly toys hanging from the towing eye! Teres still some normal people though lol!

Anyway dont want to derail the thread, cant wait to see some updates. Have to get some pics of my golf on here soon.

This is the trouble with MK2s, I'm now on my third, it's heavily addictive. Just getting a 2.0l turbo lump fitted to mine. It's one of those once you start you can't stop. Custom leather Recaro interior, nice set of RS wheels, Rallye front end. I can't wait to get back to the UK from my three year "holiday" in Cyprus to see how my mechanic mate has got on with the engine conversion. Should be good for at least 200bhp, I think the Peloquin LSD is going to come in handy.

In all honesty I was actually talking about the cars, strange fashions like the current trend of hanging flowers from your rear veiw mirror, and using Lego blocks as valve caps

It just seems no matter how gay something looks, they all seem to do it anyway because it's the current 'in' thing to do

Why didn't you clean and spray the engine bay when you had the lump out?

Was waiting for somebody to say that ;)

It's a fair comment and I was actually planning to do just that, but in the end I simply couldn't be arsed, no excuses :o :(

In all fairness there was still a lot left in the bay even without the engine in there, stripping the bay completely bare was just a whole load more work and I couldn't be arsed with it. When it's all done I intend to give it a good clean up in the most visible parts though :)

Where did you pick your carbs and pump up Drexel I'm after a set of R6 or GSX6R carbs for my 1300 mk2 and wondered if there was a cheaper alternative to fleabay

Thanks will have to keep an eye out.

Polo GT cam and exhaust manifold are on my list after a set of carbs, should live the 1300 up until I can afford to insure something with some proper poke

What exhaust manifold + downpipe are you using with your mk4 head? has it got the same port spacing as the standard 8v head? Or have you got to get a custom manifold + downpipe setup?

Always the vr6 conversion route :p
What inlet manifold are you going to use with your carbs? Just quite interesting to know.

Port spacing is identical to the stock 8v head, I'm just using what was already on the car which is a standard cast manifold mated to a 2-into-1 downpipe.

Seeing as this thread has been bumped now, may as well update it a bit. I have done all the coolant hoses and installed the alternator after making some custom brackets at work. All wiring is back in place and I have re-attached most of the front end so I could mount the radiator. Really not much more to do now before the starting her up:

- Finish fuel pump wiring
- Install choke cable
- Swap dizzy drive gear and install dizzy

That's basically all there is left to do :)

I'll be making a custom manifold with the help of my dad in the same way DreXel made his. VR6 is the wrong route, much more power to be had from a 1.8 20vt, already low comp pistons etc ready for bigger turbos. A VR6 would need a full rebuilt with new pistons and con-rods before you can give it any meaningful amount of boost
