Bit of an odd question, but is HDMI region independent?

Only as I am looking to buy a lcd/plasma but hopefully within a 18 months I am going to be moving to Canada.

Now the TV i was looking at has multivoltage, obviously I would need to get a Canadian PS3 but will it work over HDMI?

Cheers

Kimbie

Well HDMI is purely the connection, you're probably thinking of HDCP which is the content protection protocol ...but to the best of my knowledge it has nothing to do with region, so yes it should work fine.

Like you said yourself, your only issue really is going to be the 120v/230v AC power supplies, obviously not everything has a switchable one.

no HDMI is universal. no region coding. So it will play fine with UK devices.

Even blu-rays are playable multi region.

wow didnt know anybody actually used the region coding. I knew it was there, just didnt think anybody used it :/
Neither did I! It's a bit obscure - David Gilmour Live at the Royal Albert Hall. I've ended up buying it twice.

Then thought I'd rip it - it's VC1 Interlaced, which FFmpeg won't process. Argh.
