I just got hold of Dragon Age: Origins (wow, how did that pass me by!) and for the first time EVER, I've gone for a female character.

I must say that this is an immensely more aesthetically pleasing experience. :D Also, in an odd way, it's working really well as I'm more inclined to do something "in-character" rather than how I would normally just go with whatever *my* own thoughts were. eg: Ganging up on Alistair with Morrigan :p

Do others normally stick to playing a character of the same gender as their own?

In before the "gay" comments, btw ;)

In Guild Wars I have a few female characters, mostly because I detest the design of the male counterparts. Especially the assassin.

If the styling of both sex is equal then I usually pick male.

i occasionaly do in rpg's where it makes a difference (original fallouts being the main 2) eg at times you can get things cheaper by flirting (or being a hooker) but at other times things are harder because well in a post apocalyptic wasteland people are pretty sexist.

If I have to stare at a characters ass for all my time playing. - It's going to be a female ass, that is the furthest thing from gay I can imagine.

90% of my MMO/RPG chars are female, some are male but they are usually alts.

I often play female characters as they are nicer to look at from behind! Seriously though, I like to play the more 'feminine' classes (healera, rogues, mages) as girls. :D

Yeah I think healer class does fit (shame they don't do a nurse's outfit! :p).

But if you feel the urge to dress up at weekends, don't fight it, y0.

Just call me Dorothy on a Saturday! :D (An ex gf once failed to persuade me that dressing up to see the Rocky Horror Show in Sunderland was a good idea - considering the fact we'd be getting out of the theatre at the time everyone's starting to get hammered).

Have fun hitting on your male party members.

You're doing it wrong.

:o

I generally always play female characters, dunno why, unless it's a race that simply looks horrible as female (WoW female tauren/orc/undead, female EQ2 erudite/froglok/sarnak, DAoC female troll (ROFL)/dwarf spring to mind:p)

n think that pic is dragon age origins

Indeed, I always play female chars or non-human races because they are more pleasing to look at. Human male character models are always, disturbingly, masculine and less 'pretty to look at' than female. I don't mean sexually, i mean aesthetically.

When I play a game I dont 'put on' the character i am playing, but rather imbue its character with awe and become its God.

So it all depends on whether you are
1) Being your character
or 2) Nurturing your character

If 1) and you are male and playing a female, thats transexual
If 1) and you are male and playing a male, thats fine

If 2) and you are male and playing a female, thats fine
If 2) and you are male and playing a male, thats fine

I am always a female in RPG's if i can be, only that there are not many games where you can choose your gender.
