Im currently looking to get a new TV and it looks like i may end up getting a 3D model.
Now im not really interested in 3D movies so I wasnt going to buy the transponder and glasses (extra cost of around £150 for 1 pair of specs) but the idea of games crossed my mind.

I know Motorstorm pacific rift is patched to 3D which other games are 3D and are any of them any good?

3D is just a feature on the Tv i want that i figured id never use but id like to see what it looks like on games.

It's hasn't actually been patched but there's a demo/mini version you can buy which is 3d enabled for something like £9.99.

There's a list of games here. I've not tried any games in 3D but there seems to be a lot of people impressed by it when they do. If your getting a 3d telly anyway there's a number of demos you can get off the store to try if you don't actually own a game that's been patched.

I was just hearing from a friend about how he's got a 3D TV from Samsung that does the whole 2D -> 3D "up-scaling".

He was saying that it works really well even on Xbox 360 games... Anyone able to confirm how well this actually works?

I say friend but he's more of an acquittance that's an habitual liar :-)

I played Superstar Dust(?) at my Dads and was really impressed with it, everything was crisp and clear and it has some nice effects when you died and blew up the rocks.

I wasn't too impressed with Motorstorm, it works well and the vehicles look good, mud splatters up into your view etc but I felt that the background textures looked terrible. I saw some other stuff that Sony released as a highlight reel etc and some of it looked very cool.

Also you still need the transponder if it isnt built into the TV the sync the glasses do you not?

ive played both pacific rift and apocalypse in 3D on different tellys, pacific rift was on the Panansonic models, which was pretty amazing, nice a smooth and relatively easy on the eyes.

apocolypse was on a sony 3D lcd, which looked terrible, all jaggie and jerky, it was also to dark, and the screen hurt your eyes after a few mins of playing.

If i was buying a 3D telly now, if would 100% be plasma, lcd is just to slow to do 3D at speed.

Have to say though.. Kudos for Sony for enabling 3D support in PS3 for free. The only outlay to getting 3D PS3 if you own something like Wipeout HD is a HDTV.. And Sony can't upgrade 2D tv's to 3D, if they could I bet you they would as well..

Would love to see what Wipeout HD is like in 3D. I thought 3D would be a fad, but looks like it could be something that takes off... 3D TV can be had for sub £1000 now.. Its affordable if you're in the market for a new TV.

I've played Killzone 3, GT5 and Motorstorm Apocolypse in 3D.

whilst they were good, it wasn't as impressive as I thought.

If I was in the market for a TV today, it would have to be 3D.

Wipeout HD is insane! Its not a massive step up but i totally agree. Id be waiting til next year though so i dont have to look like a muppet with the 3D shades on.

Yeah, Wipeout Hd in 3D is awesome, I played it in store a few months back. And it sold the concept to me completely.

now i just need to beable to afford a 3DTV :D

Also played Super Stardust after dragging my PS3 to try on my mates new TV. It looks excellent, and I'd say is one of the most impressive things I saw due to it managing to keep running at 60fps.

I'd say Wipeout was good in 3D, the downside being it seems to halve the framerate. It's still very playable, but it's a shame there has to be a trade off to enable it to run in 3D.

Id agree in going with a Plasma for less "cross talk" of images.

GT5 has to deliver in 3D and while Betas have not shown all the effects in the game. A racing game is different to shooters with loads of oncoming action, so it propably wont have as much pop out effects like say KZ3.

Im keen to see how good GT5's 3D is for "Photo Mode and Replays". Often 3D is an effect that happens very quickly, sometimes its depth into the screen as we know but I think in GT5's case it might be more impressive here than when playing the game in cockpit view.

Photomode in GT5 could be an awesome way of purring over the highly detailed cars. It should also be an effect that wont just be a small instant but allowing the viewer to spend time appreciating the cars in a new way.

Will get a 3DTV just not sure when.

Have seen PS3/3D on a Samsung 46" LED (I know you said LCD), and that was certainly (to my eyes) spot on. I played Stardust and Wipout as in my above post, and there were certainly no issues that I could see.

The only issue I'd have about buying one myself is the cost ;)

Lcd and Led are the same thing, just lite differently, i still stand by my comment though, an would 100% recomened going plasma for 3D gaming.

Played some 3D games in the Beta Rooms as mentioned. KZ3 was amazing, Motorstorm Apocalypse was average, GT5 was dull.

I'd deffo get a 3DTV if I was planning on getting a tele anyway. Plasma does handle motion better but from what I've seen the latest gens of LED LCDs offer better contrast and PQ.

What was amazing about KZ3?
Was it mainly pop out of screen effects or effects highlighting depth or heights?

Curious as Ive read a few comments from ones that were impressed and with move this could be quite a step in gaming?
