Hi,

I have a msi 5970 which has always had the cold bug ,not been an issue just lock up on desk top some times, but its become a problem in gaming in the last few days,

I have the run ATI tools to check the graphic are not failing and they work fine , no errors

ive read about and it seems a bios update fixes this dumb problem, i have the msi 5970 and was going to use the msi live update but its not happy with windows 7 64bit. and people says it too risky

i read the bios editor is also an option but that seems to be a hard path to follow

i dont seem to see a update from msi website, questios is can i flash a MSI card with another makers bios ? who is the best choice to flash with and what tool should i use to flash, im guess a windows flash tool is not an option and a boot disk method is ?

Hi

Ive just had a format so i dont have the link at hand . But i can say that the sapphire bios is fantastic.

There is a thread somewhere that lists about 4-5 modded bios which im using one and its so stable im over the moon.

If you dont find it ill have a look for you when i get home

But sapphire bios is the best

Found it for you . I used the 900/1200 and its very very good plus a good safe start for any further overclocks

Just thought I'd bump this as my XFX 5970 BE has always had the cold bug (unstable below around 35 degrees, stable as a rock above it). I've always had to let it sit on the "choose boot device" menu otherwise it will crash a lot in 2D/desktop stuff.

Can you confirm that it is safe to flash an XFX card with this Sapphire BIOS? Are you using 900/1200 BIOS with stock cooling?
