Hiya,
thanks for looking. Needing some advice on the way the 360 handles please.
Got a 360 slim 250, Halo reach and a bunch of points.

Buying games in live:
-- Good idea or better to get the game disk in a shop?
-- Are they only valid for that actual box (is what I read on some) but can be swapped out via a data cable. If that actual box dies are the games linked to profile or linked to the actual box?

Games to get:
Liking driving, flying, strategy, arcade games (lunar lander, tempest), resi evil games, and the typical puzzle games (match colours, follow sequence etc).
Would like some multiplayer options. Liking the look of Forza3, Ace Combat 6, Limbo.
-- Any ideas what games to get and what to look out for? Never had an xbox and happy to go back a few years.
-- Preowned games, if buying can assume that the use of multiplayer is gone or is multiplayer linked to the disk id?

Backup:
If I take a live game down can I backup the content to a PC and delete from local xbox disk?

Thanks for the help.

Only games worth buying on Live are the ones only available on Live; anything else will be half the price (at least) if you buy the physical copy elsewhere.
Your purchases are tied to your account, so if the console dies and you replace it, you can use everything you've previously purchased.

Depends on the game. More and more games now have a single-use code in the box that either unlocks online play, or opens extra maps etc that people without the code won't get; you have to pay for a code in that case. Other games are the same pre-owned as they are new (like Modern Warfare 2).

The 360 HDD can't be read from a PC. If you delete something and decide you want it again, you'll have to re-download it. Failing that, use a USB drive for backups.

Make use of the HDD though, and install games to it. Renders the console almost silent and reduces load times.

Games to get:

Mass Effect 1 & 2
Gears of War 1 & 2
Forza 3
Prototype (definetly)
Bioshock 1 & 2
Tales of Vesperia
Magna Carta 2 (If you love beautifully sculpted women)
Lost Odyssey (If you like turn based rpg)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY

I take it you've had a ps3 so there is no point mentioning too many games that are on both consoles?

Thanks Praxxtor!!
Actually no, a long time PC gamer, totally new to consoles.
Bioshock 1 I've played, didn't overtake my love for System Shock 2.
GoW does look good though I hear many folks talking about it.
Mass Effect, yeah, I should get that now that I remember folks here talking of it.
Played Oblivion on PC, immense! So good recommend, thanks!

No problem, by the way forgot to mention Deadrising 1 & 2, a hell of a lot of fun they are.
The new Halo Reach if you love playing online. Also Red Dead redemption if you haven't played it yet. Dragon age origins again if you like rpg. Another good game which is Alan Wake.

Project Gotham Racing 4 might be old but its one heck of an arcade racing game.

Split Second is also fantastic fun, I'd fully recommend Forza 3. Forza 3 is worth getting the xbox360 for in the first place. Excellent game. F1 2010 is also out for 360.

That'll get the driving itch over and done with.. :p

Actually that's interesting. Many PC gamers tend to get a PS3 as a console mainly for the many exclusives the PC will never see from PS3.

Upon saying this, PGR4 and Forza 3 will never see the light of day on PC as neither will Alan Wake.

That was one of the reasons I got a PS3 initially. Two years since then, it became obvious PC gaming was becoming more and more neglected by a lot of studios, so I got a 360 too. Ironically, it was just after that that they started announcing a lot of 360-only games/franchises for the PS3!

If it's a racing game you're after, the new Need For Speed is out in about a month, looks like it'll be awesome.

This whole 'all 360 games end up on PC too' is a bleeding stupid, annoying, perplexing, obfusticating and totally groundless myth. Just as many PS3 games end up on PC too. Games that are on 360 and PC but not PS3 are extremely rare.

Hey in all fairness I did acknowledge quite a few 360 games that'll never see the light on PC either.. Pretty sure you weren't having a go at me per se as I agree. PC gaming is being left behind as so many decent titles on both PS3 and 360 just never see the light of day on the PC, so best to own both boxes if you're well into gaming..

Forza 3 is absolutely brilliant. There's so much content there. Once you get to grips with it and get into the variety of cars there is just so much to play with. I dread to think how many hours I've spent on that game, and I've only done about 1/3 of the events. It really rewards experimentation and trying different things. When I first started, I couldn't keep a RWD car on the track for love nor money, even with all the assists on. These days I'm putting in top 20% times with R3 class Porsches with nothing but semi-auto gears, which, while not as impressive as some of the guys on here, is huge progress for me! The amount of tuning and modding that you can do is enormous, and there must be nearly 500 cars in the game now, once you factor in the DLC, so there is always something new to try.

In other news, Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Forza 3
Project Gotham Racing 4
Dirt 2
Split Second
Think I'll opt for Dead Space 2, played the first on the PC and loved it.
Deadrising

I'll have a think about the wheel, I do like using them at arcades but not too sure I'd translate that to a desk very well :p.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

Pick yourself up crackdown!

It's often overlooked on these types of threads, but I guarantee a lot of people who've already offered games advice will see this and think. OH YEAH! CRACKDOWN! AWESOME GAME! :p

The following are my all time favourite games and i think they should be on every 360 owners list.
---------------------------------------
Crackdown 1 + 2 + All DLC

Dragon Age: Origins + All DLC

Fable 2 + All DLC

Gears of War 1 + 2 + All DLC

Mass Effect 1 + 2 + All DLC

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion + All DLC

As above for 360 games, but i would get Mass Effect 1 and 2 on PC, much better on the PC especially the first one. Forza 3 is prob the best driving game out at the moment, take note that the MS wheel can be quite hard to find at present.
