Anyone else fitting one of these.

Pain the ****

Firstly, you have to stick the standoffs on the block. I used ceramique I had laying around with is pretty good for this..

Secondly, the instructions clearly state to refit the back plate. However, the lip on the top prevents the plate laying flat on the block and the screws provided won't go all the way through.

I just installed it without..but I did ask myself if anyone at EK actually tested this before it went to retail.

i agree with the standoffs being a complete PITA, but you don't *need* them, they're just to give a stopping point. you could get away with not using them, but i wouldn't risk it personally.

as for the backplate, fit fine for me

did you get an ek backplate or the stock one that came with the card?

yup, i used the stock backplate as well, didn't have any problems fitting it though... maybe they've screwed up and given you shorter screws?

I remember having the same problem with an EK 5870, it tells you to fit the old backplate but the lip along the edge prevented fitting.

the standoffs dont need to be thermal pasted in place?

you just place them down.
do a test fit

then unscrew everything and check the mount

then seat it again properly.

its simples no?

I've not fitted a whole card block before so apologies if this idea is worthless, but I thought of a way to help you guide a block of this sort onto the holes on the gcard. Lay the water block on a flat surface with mounting holes upper most, put the standoffs on and use whatever substance you want to keep them in place. Put cocktail sticks or any other thin sticklike object in all the holes you need to line up, then offer up the gcard to the cocktail sticks and gently lower it towards the card. The sticks should help the card correctly centre on all the holes in the block. Take all the sticks out and every hole should be ready for screws.

This is all theory btw, I will probably be trying this when I try to fit my full board chipset block to my rampage II extreme mobo when I get round to it, as it looks to be the same game with little standoffs and lining up with numerous scew holes whilst trying not to dislodge the standoffs as you try to line it up. I will probably be using a small dot of silicone rubber to fix my standoffs in place rather than thermal paste, slightly more secure if you ask me.

I did mate, there was no way that backplate was going on.. there's a small lip on the back of the plate that pushed against the block near the inlets. This meant the screws wouldn't go in all the way.. No matter.. I left it off and doesn't seem to mind.. Card is running a cool 20c on load using F&H GPU3 :)
