Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870"Golden Sample" 512MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - OEM(Grade A Refurb 3 Months Warranty)[471846200-9580] looking at buying this graphics card to go with my
Phenom 2 555be 4core processor
Just wondered if anyone would recommend a better card for around the same price (£80)

Wait a bit for 6xxx series, prices should drop and you should be able to pick something better up.

If you can't wait then pick p a 4850/4870 but 2nd hand, new one ( even refurb ) is not worth it.

you need to log into "trust" (bottom right hand corner of a post where the edit tab is) and then it'll be activated. Its on the main forums homepage below the "life" section.

someone selling a 4890 on the MM for that price....

Right, more of a funny "rant" but something that has crossed my mind more than a few times.

I am always buying and selling old bits and bobs compter wise(and bike wise)
I have over 400 sales @ 100% on fleabay just with personal buying and selling.

I made that statement just so everyone is in the picture.

This MM sounds like.....AD Trader, if you will.
I reguarly see posts saying " one of those going cheap in the members market" to members that are new/dont have required posts, being one of those members and the type of guy I am 2nd hand goods wise, this really upsets me, I dont mean in the angry way I mean the --sitting at my computer crying---way.

Just thought I would share that......hope to hear more of all the good deals im missing.

(PS:   means angry / sarcastic before this post bites me in the rear)

(PPS: need a new keyboard the tears have ruined it.......4890 for £80 I just spend that on a vanilla 4870)

I use 4890 @ 930/1025 (most of the time stock speed) and all games are maxed on 1920x1080 Mass Effect 2, Medal of honor, MW1/2, L4D1/2...etc.

so for £80 I'd go for HD4890

how about this then

ASUS Radeon 4850 512mb ddr3 for £50

scrap that, it's not even the hd model...

can't access the mm so unfortunately can't get the 4890 otherwise i would have went for that

What you mean about " hd model" ?
They're all the same ; ) . Hd or not is only up to the retailer if they want to put it in the name or not, it doesn't mean anything at all.

You can get a 5770 for around that if you are willing to risk second hand off the well known site.

The power savings and 1GB memory are well worth it over the 512mb 4870. Plus it actually can use its tessellation unit under dx11, unlike the 4870 and earlier cards which just had one sitting around never used under dx9 and 10.1
