Hi folks,

I'm new here and am planning on changing my PC, purchased in bits from OverClockers some 5-6 years ago.

It is an AMD X2 4400, 2GB RAM, nvidia 7800GTX PCIx plus a few other bits.

I have no interest in playing games anymore. My PS3 does that but what I do do a lot of is video editing, particularly 1080p HD from a camcorder. I also RIP quite a few of my Blu-Ray movies. My current machine stutters when playing a Blu-Ray disc and I am guessing it is the processor(s) struggling.

Anyhow, I don't have an unlimited amount to spend and would like to build my own again, or perhaps look at a bundle but I don't want to have, for example, an expensive graphics card for playing games when I am not going to use it for that.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent set-up?

I am quite happy with my Antec Phantom 350W PSU (fanless) and it runs all of my machine perfectly OK but I am guessing things have changed and devices require more power these days for some reason? Would I still be able to use my PSU or require a new one also?

I have an Antec P180 case but it has suffered over the years so will probably be looking for a new case also, so any suggestions, please let me know.

I am puzzled whether to go AMD or Intel, nvidia or ATI also.

Thanks!

Well I would say for case, cpu, gpu, mobo, ram and possibly a new psu if my phantom is not enough around £400 - £500.

+1.

Stulid strikes again :D

Thanks guys. This gives me some idea. I see no mention of a graphics card anywhere?

The above boards all have integrated graphics. Its not much (HD 4200/4250) but it will be fine for your applications (including playing blu rays) - just don't try to game with it. By saving money on the graphics, you can afford a very fast CPU - which I'm sue you will be making good use of.

OK - thanks.

Do you think my Antec Phantom 350w PSU would not be able to run all of this and I need the Corsair CX 430W?

Again thanks for the help, what a great forum!

Yes the PSU is superb, hence my reason to not ditch it even though it is an oldun. Thank you.
