1k for PC & Monitor

liampope, that screenshot of mine is yonks old, and that ram is on offer atm for 70 quid, bargain.

shadow boxer, cheers for that, why did you change the ram, cheaper?
And I don't need the bluray or hd, I already have a 1tb ide drive to go in.
The gigabyte mb, the one in your pic, is that just a smaller version of the one in my pic?

Jony27, I don't think it's need tbh, it's not gonna be used to gaming, so the i3 should be okay?
That being said, the i5 for example, I assume that's what you mean?? also has IGP?

i5s dont have igp but the phenom ii do depending on motherboard.
have you considered the athon ii x4 for the same price as the i3 and is a quad core

whoops, just quickly googled the i5 and found something saying the i5 did have IGP.
The phenoms are dual core with IGP, and more expensive than the i3?
And the athon II would need a graphics card?

phenom comes in dual, tri, and quad cores.
athlon ii can use the igp depending if your motherboard has an igp.

Oh, I thought it was just the processor and a card that would allow you to have the graphics.
What mobo would work with the athlon and not need a graphics card?

Intel havent been very helpful at all with their CPU naming. i5 700 series (750 and 760) are quad cores with no IGP. i5 600 series are a dual core with on-CPU IGP. They are just the same as the i3 but they have turbo boost and cost more. For your use I'd stick with the i3 and overclock it.

With AMD no CPU has an IGP, but some of the AMD mobos have an onboard IGP. That used to be the only way (some mobos with IGP, some without - CPU never came into it) until intel made things more confusing with their on-CPU IGPs. Er, hope that's clear :)

Been looking at gigabytes site and they say 'When using Intel Core i5/Core i3/ Pentium CPU with HD Graphics, the maximum memory speed supported is 1666 MHz'

It also says 4x1.5v sockets, the ocz memory says 1.65v, what does that mean, 1.65v is the max voltage or would I need to up the voltage from the mobo to 1.65v?

Or would it be better, never having messed around with voltages, timings etc, to just get ram that will work straight away, theres a list of suggested memory on gigabytes site.

I've changed a couple of bits, still unsure about the if the memory is okay to use?

Don't mean to drive everyone crazy, just need a yah or nay on if the memory is cool with the motherboard and processor if someone would be so kind.

It will be fine. 1.5V is the 'standard' voltage for RAM on a P55/H55 mobo. That will be for the standard speed of 1333 MHz. 1600 MHz is technically an overclock and to get your RAM running at that speed will require around 1.65V. RAM with an XMP (extreme memory profile) will sort that all out automatically if you enable the XMP. Otherwise you can set it up manually when you overclock.

Fantastic, thanks lads. Hopefully see about getting that lot ordered tomorrow.
I'll get the corsair as well I think, it's got some good reviews.

As the corsair memory has 'Intel XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) Support' and the gigabyte motherboard has support for XMP, it would seem wise to enable this in the bios when I build it?

Just waiting on the case then I can begin...
