UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez

The thing that really annoys me about Shields is, he gets mount on people and just taps them with little flower punches. He should be trying to finish them, instead he is happy to maintain mount and touch them up.

Exactly, I find it very strange he fights like that but trains/is close with the Diaz brothers who are the complete opposite.

While I don't like the Diaz bros, I always enjoy their fights

I don't like their whole bad boy attitudes, but I respect the hell out of their fighting ability, Nick more so than Nate.

Nick has proved himself time and time again against top competition.

Shields is boring to watch imo. Can't sell a fight either.. no charisma. He is a very talented wrestler though! Look forward to him boring his way up the roster til he loses to GSP in another bore fest.

I love GSP, but pitching him against a wrestler results in a grappling match, likely to end with Shields being subbed or decision victory.

Agree about all the lightweight stuff :)

Shields is an enigma, i seem to remember he has a black belt under Cesar Gracie? Should be an interesting watch to see him go against GSP and see what he can do off his back.

PS: Cain Velasquez is going to destroy Brock Lesnar. Lest we forget as ive said numerous times, Cain is also 2-3 time NCAA All American wrestling champion, the guy is unstoppable IMO.

He may not necessarily be a guard player though, can't say I have seen him on the bottom much so do not know.

Being a wrestler at heart, I'd argue he is better top position than guard.

"Lesnar finished his amateur career as a two-time NJCAA All-American, 1998 NJCAA Heavyweight Champion, two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Ten Conference Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106–5 overall in four years of college"

Velasquez is a NJCAA champion. J stands for Junior.

The difference between junior and adult college is huge.

from wikipedia:

Collegiate wrestling:
- Two-time All-American Div 1 NCAA Wrestler[32]
- 2002 NJCAA Collegiate Wrestling Heavyweight Championship while in Iowa Central Community College[14]
- Placed 5th place in the 2005 NCAA Division I Collegiate Championship at Heavyweight while in Arizona State University[14]
- Placed 4th place in the 2006 NCAA Division I Collegiate Championship at Heavyweight while in Arizona State University[14]
- 2005 Pac-10 Conference Wrestler of the Year[3]

So he only competed twice in NCAA div 1, nowhere near winning it

Champ Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez (for heavyweight title)
Martin Kampmann vs. Jake Shields
Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
Matt Hamill vs. Tito Ortiz
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Brendan Schaub

GOOOOOO CAIN!
I really hope Cain whoops Lesnars ass.. Like I hope he beats the living daylights out of him

Well if you've said it numerous times you've also, judging by other people's factual observations on the subject, made yourself seem like a muppet numerous times :p

Not that I'm saying Cain can't win, but you can't underestimate Brock's wrestling; that and his ground and pound are his fortes!

lol

I really really hope he loses

He has the worst attitude imo, is never humble or anything... so it makes me really not like him.

GOOOOOOOOO VELASQUEZ

Personally I hope Lesnar smashes him. I didn't care much for him at first but i've seen big changes in him.
Cain is good but meh, zero personality and likeability.

MAIN CARD

* Champ Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez (for heavyweight title)
* Martin Kampmann vs. Jake Shields
* Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
* Matt Hamill vs. Tito Ortiz
* Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Brendan Schaub

I just can't see Cain stopping Brock from getting the fight on the ground where as many people agree the fight would be over for Cain.
