Anyone excited for windows phone 7?

I like the look of the HD7 and it seems a very tidy phone but why it doesn't have the same spec as the Desire HD is beyond me, and the software still needs proper testing. It could be absolutely awful.

THis is a list from Modaco on what phones are coming to which networks

In Europe:

O2

· HTC HD7, United Kingdom, Germany

Orange

· HTC 7 Mozart, including France, United Kingdom
· Samsung Omnia 7, including France, United Kingdom

T-Mobile UK

· Samsung Omnia 7, United Kingdom

Vodafone

· HTC 7 Trophy, including Germany, Spain, United Kingdom
· LG Optimus 7, including Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom

Three

· Samsung Omnia 7, United Kingdom

I want this one.

Look at that thing. Brushed steel, efficient rectangular design complemented by the WP7 software... excellent. I'm in no rush though, since my Android contract lasts aaages.

Nice to see they are stopping the various networks/manufactures from putting custom UIs on the phones. Means they can update all devices at the same time. With the phone being new technology it would be a pain in the ass having to wait for each network and phone manufacturer to play catch up leaving a fragmented market ala Android.

So long as MS are happy to develop the phone and release updates it could grow into something good. If they aren't going to develop and release updates over the next few months then it makes stopping the manufacturers releasing UIs a bit pointless.

Hopefully the fact it is locked down means they will be actively developing the platform based on feedback. Cut and paste for instance...

Some, yes. I've been playing with the SDK over the past couple of days. With the Apple app store so saturated, I think there's an opportunity to win fame and fortune on WP7. ;)

I think it says a lot that Microsoft's own applications (and some third party apps like Spotify) aren't written in Silverlight.

Compared to Objective-C, Silverlight on WP7 is an utter joy and will make writing apps easier.

my local orange store in chelmsford will be getting them in tomoz apparently, so hopefully i will get my sammy omnia 7 then. :)

I don't understand why there isn't more buzz for the launch. It's only 8 hours away! The OS, to me, looks absolutely brilliant - the smoothness looks on a par with iOS at least.

Does anyone have any info about pricing/availability tomorrow? I can't seem to find anything anywhere apart from which operators will have which phones.

Theres not much buzz because it's nothing special. It's too locked down to appeal to High-End Android users, not Apple enough to appeal to iPhone users, and not productive enough to steal users from blackberry.
The only thing it has going for is the Xbox live feature, and it would need some really unique killer games to convince people who want to game not to buy an iPhone which already has an enormous library.

I was quite excited until the release then the cost and various other things put me off. I'm still going to give them a test before hand as I love the look of the UI, however it looks increasingly like I'm going to head to the Desire HD...

(Cost is the HD7, which O2 looks like it will be copying it's 2G iPhone exclusivity....)
