Hi All,

I am quite new to overclocking and purchased the 880gm board (Gigabyte) and a Phenom II 555BE...manged to open up the idle 2 cores and push the processor to 3.8ghz on stock...tested with Prime95 and all okay...my question is...how much more performance can I expect to get...have changed the cooler (as the stock wasnt too good) and temps seem okay...just need some advice on what I need to do next??

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Craig

Not really enough info, how long did run prime? and what was max temp on load?
3.8 is about the top end for these you might have been lucky and squeeze 4ghz depending on temps volts.

Hi, Im currently running at 3.8
Temps under prime load are about 60c
Idle temps are about 34c
Ran Prime for almost an hour
stock voltages on both cpu and ram
all cores working now I have a new arctic cooler

Tried to get it to 4ghz with voltages at 1.475 - 1.5 but windows won't even start in that configuration

You can go 4+ but it will require extreme volts ( 1.56-1.6v ) and will need some good cooling as well.

The sweet spot is usually around 3.6-3.7 at stock volts or if you don't need all that power just yet run like me at 3.4-3.5 undervolted.

Remember to max out your NB/HT as well ( usually around 2700-2800 ) and fix your memory timings as tight as you can.

There is nearly no difference between 3.8 and 4ghz so it's not worth all the extra volts.

You're pretty much done on your current cooling, max temp on the chip is 62.

Oh and my 550, for love nor money can I get it to boot as a 4Ghz dual. However it will boot as a 4Ghz quad...

You might have the same issue...whatever that issue may be :)

3.8 was the best stable that I could get out of a 955 with a small voltage increase :)

As mentioned by PhonenixUK, don't forget the NB/HT this will do a whole lot of good and make it far more stable. :)
