hi

hopefully we'll be viewing a car tomorrow, the car doesn't have road tax. is it possible (legal) to drive the car back home and leave it on the driveway till the new road tax sorted out?

thanks

Nope, not legal. The only way is if it needs an MOT and is driven to a pre-booked test. Other than that, it would need to be towed on a trailer. (Of course, someonw is about to prove me wrong :p)

With the police scameras around now, you may or may not be lucky.

the car does have MOT till march 2011, so therefore we cant do the test drive?

would it be quicker if i pay the dealer 6 month tax upfront so he can purchase 6 month tax from his local post office?

cheers again

Of course it would. That way it is still taxed. And usually the 'normal' way of doing things.

It's not legal, but in all honesty the fine for no tax is what? £60

It'd risk it for a chocolate biscuit.

This is not the case.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) carries out a computer check each month, as well as roadside checks to identify those vehicles without a valid tax disc. You could face an automatic penalty of £80 as well as a minimum fine of £1000. Your vehicle could be clamped, impounded or even crushed.

If you don’t tax or SORN your vehicle

I did this two weeks ago. Picked the car up from the guy who was selling it 80 miles away and drove it back, left it parked outside my house and got it taxed the next day.

I'm sure many have just "risked it".

However - the correct, and legal, answer, is no, you cannot drive it home without tax.

And, as the question has been asked, that's the answer you're going to get.

lol

just had text message conversation with the dealer. he said he can tax the car before 12pm if we view and purchase the car first thing in the morning. so we'll see if we'll like the car
