i bought something online and its coming by royal mail special delivery, i emailed the shop earlier to ask when it would arrive so i could make sure im in and i was told that it would either be with me today or monday

im a bit confused as we get post here on saturdays too, does special delivery only cover monday to friday? i had a look on the rm website and it said
"If you need your item sent over the weekend, you can also arrange a guaranteed Saturday Delivery available at just £2.25 extra per item"

does this mean it can also arrive on saturday without paying the extra?

If you ordered Thursday you should get it Friday before 13:00,a Friday order may come Saturday but isn't guaranteed afaik (although I tend to get saturday deliveries) failing that it should be Monday before 13:00

It won't come on a Saturday at all unless you paid the retailer for Special Delivery Saturday.

You will get it Monday.
Special Delivery is a next day service so they presumably didn't send it out until today.

thanks for the replies :) ill wait in tomorrow just to be safe as a friend of mine just told me on the phone that he has had to sign for things on saturdays that he didnt pay extra for

Nah, I've had plenty of Special Deliveries arrive on a Saturday without paying extra

It's hit and miss...if you haven't paid for Saturday delivery then it may come on Monday, or Saturday. You won't need to hang around all day tomorrow though, it should be with you by 1PM either way. :)

It may depends on the business relationship that the retailer has with Royal Mail.

If you take something as an individual into a post office and send it Special Delivery, it's unlikely to be delivered on a Saturday without paying for it.

Has happened many times to me and I'm just a standard consumer sending stuff from the local post office. If it arrives in time for Saturday morning delivery and there is time for the driver, then why be less efficient pushing this to Monday? Worse for all parties.

Obviously it isn't guaranteed though.

Same as above, I've always had a special delivery arrive on a Saturday at no extra cost, but if it didn't then as others have said, should arrive 100% Monday.

I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the relationship and that it's more likely to do with the posties in local area the item is being delivered.

I've sent lots of items sold on Ebay/forums via special delivery and most have them have been delivered on a Saturday without any extra cost to me. Even Citylink have delivered to me on a Saturday without me paying extra!

Special Delivery isn't guaranteed for Saturday delivery unless you pay extra but there's a very good chance that it will be delivered on a Saturday anyway.

Saturday is not technically a full working day for the post office.

It may get delivered, but wont guaranteed as it may hit a link in the chain where something is closed and thus gets trapped over the weekend

Equally if you live in a major city, you likely wont hit anything thats closed and thus will get it anyway.
