Anyone excited for windows phone 7?

Having read all the reviews, its a shame Microsoft didn't launch this a year ago. They are well behind Apple and Android now.

Which is a pity, because the phone software is basically iOS with a different sort of skin and design, but the simplicity and functionality seems to be there.

If Microsoft can get Apps rolling very quickly, they might be able to catch up. I Certainly wont rule it out for my next phone but I wont get one just yet!

Well done Microsoft, even if you are a bit behind! :p

I can't remember where, but I seen it for £380 sim-free earlier today. I'll check back a few sites I was on this morning to see if I can find it again!

I'll keep my fingers crossed - I'd like to find out!

The reviews look really positive considering its version 1 of a completely, completely new piece of software. I'm not at all put off by the lack of features - it won't take long for MS to catch up with ios/android. The whole organisation is built around seeing what other people do and then trying to do one better.

The one thing that does bother me from the reviews is the facebook/people/photostream integration. It almost seems a bit too integrated. When I go to the pictures/photos app, I want to see my own photos. I don't care about what long lost Eddie from school has been taking photos of and putting on facebook. They need to add a filtering mechanism pretty quickly.

The samsung omnia 7 looks like pick of the bunch at the minute. When one of the three 'bad' points from a review is "crappy headphones", its clearly a sign of the device itself being pretty good. I'm eager to see the aluminium in the flesh- might trot along to orange at lunchtime and have a play.

I think they'll be pretty good at getting the apps rolling quickly, after all there's already hundreds of MS .net developers who don't need to relearn much to build apps for it.

My worry is though that the apps will likely be a lower quality than iOS's, in terms of looks and usability. Designers bloomin' love anything Apple. Therefore there's hundreds of apps made by designers in the apple app store and these look great.

Designers don't have the same love for Microsoft, and as a result there's going to be a lot more apps made by programmers who don't have so much skill in the design department.

Unless the platform itself can inspire designers to design for it.

Seems a bit of an odd 'launch' to me.

I called T-Mobile on monday and was told they don't know anything about it (guy didn't believe it was on their website at first) call back in a few days.

T-Mobile twitter said to contact them on 21st, and today told me it was available.

T-Mobile store didn't have any phones, any literature or any idea when they would get any.

Over the phone today T-Mobile said they had had no information about what deals and prices they will be able to offer other than what is on their website and also no idea when they would have stock.

I had an MS techy come over to my stand today at IP Expo (I had met him before at a customer's site) and he was showing off his "Engineering Hack" 7 version on his LG handset.

It was flashy, and he assured me that the full release version would be a lot more responsive with the correct screen type.

Not sure its for me, but will be popping into the nearest Orange shop to play with an official version before i decide on my overdue upgrade.

Just reading the reviews posted above and tbh I'm a little underwhelmed with HTC's offerings. The HD7 and Mozart are both a little poor in a variety of ways and after reading the WP7 review (specifically the 3rd party app state) I was even more underwhelmed. Then I read the Omnia 7 review, looks like a very interesting phone, reminds me of the SE X10 looks wise...

It also seems to be available cheaper than the Desire HD as well yet still has a large screen, think if I do decide to go for a WinPho then it'll be the Omnia... But then again the Dell looks nice to (although no review).

Just need to work out if the much nicer UI of WinPho is worth losing the customisability of Android. The lack of tethering and drag and drop is a little bit of an issue for me to. I'm also wondering if 8GB is enough (yet my walkman is 8GB and the card in my HD is also 8GB). The one thing that gets me is that all the companies seem to have gone for the lowest common denominator hardware wise. Just because MS had a minimum spec list doesn't mean they have to be that minimum spec...

Wonder when the Desire HD review will come out?

Seems there are stock issues, with stock being driven to high volume stores, aka london. Im Waiting for buymobiles to get their stock.

And it seems there a distinct lack of knowledge of what is happening with staff in orange or t-mobile stores.

The shop I went to that had no clue was on Victoria Road, so I don't think the central london stores know anything either.

The shops on oxford street seem to. The OS looks nice, I like it.

Orange midway between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road have 2 Mozart's and an Omnia 7 to try out, and more marketing memorabilia than a wedding show.

They had phones available to buy when I went in yesterday evening.

O2 just over the road (ish) from there said they're getting the HD7 in with their delivery on Thursday, they seemed to think.

Vodafone opposite John Lewis had the Trophy available for demo and to buy.

I didn't try T-Mobile, I don't like their pink branding.

I might head to Totts Court Road at lunch to see what they've got there sim-free. I don't think much, seeing as even the carriers don't have a lot.

Think the Omnia 7 is the pick of the bunch unless you need the extra .3" (I like big screens but the extra size over the 4" on the Omnia doesn't make it better than it IMO).

Having said that I haven't tried any yet, hopefully I'll get myself to a phone store or two tomorow and hope they have some in stock.

Popped into Tmobile on the way home and they told me that they don't expect any stock in the next 2 weeks. Their twitter support are still saying I can pick one up in storenow.

I am going to check out other carriers this weekend and see what's available.

Check out the Anandtech review of the OS. Its a really good article.

At the end they have a battery life section and the US Samsung with Super AMOLED 4" has a real battery life problem. Maybe the Omnia 7 will have the same issue..

Just got an HD7 on PAYG.

Not too sure it's really that different over my HD2 with 6.5.5 and Android. Of course the OS is different, but I find it quite hard to navigate at the minute. Perhaps I should just get used to it for a minute and try to clear out all of my MSN contacts that I've deleted over the years that have magically appeared in my "People" list (unless anyone knows of a way to mass delete these?).

Unsure as to whether I'm going to sell the HD2 on or not!

Got it unlocked though from a website for £16 which isn't bad!

My issues with this phone:
No unified inbox
No Copy and Paste
No Last.FM scrobbling with Zune
It requires a Live account as your exchange

Bad launch. The big thing is the gaming/xbox angle. However, they have NO good high profile games ready to go!

They should have launched with crap like Farmville for the women, Halo for the boys and something like Civilization for grandpa.

Gaming phone with no games. Fail.

Personally I can see myself using this phone over the iphone, the interface is really nice to use and is easily the best of any phone to date.

What annoys me however is that Microsoft have just copied Apple.

Microsoft are really pushing with this, but they really need to stop fighting everybody and make some friends.

You must use Zune (but no Last.FM scrobbling, so the only people I can get info from is other Microsoft users, well thats a smaller demographic, so cant be as good)

Now Last.FM owns the social side of music just like Facebook owns the social side of networking.
If they dont let Zune users access to Last.FM then what incentive do Phone 7 users have to use Zune over Spotify?

Essentially Mickysoft has just done a copy and paste of the features that sell the other main smart phones then done a copy and paste of their revenue models.

Then oddly enough not included copy and paste as a feature....

Played with this today and really quite like it however.. no multitasking, not the best virtual keypad and a severe lack of apps make this a no no for now, perhaps in 6 months time. (Also the cameras are pretty poor on the Samsung/HTC efforts).

The HTC Mozart looks the best to me, the Omina 7 has a good large screen but is fugly imo.
