At night I see it time and time again. A massively bright sat-nav sitting on the dash. Who are these idiots? How does it not occur to them to put it on the night-mode??

Mine does it automatically, but I never get why this bothers people? I don't find it distracting at all...

erm... night blindness perhaps? I find it bad enough when I overtake a car with a blinding sat-nav on the motorway, it's like getting dazzled by a headlight! In the cockpit it must be immense!

Think you should put some sunglasses on if its bothering you that much.
Safe to overtake ..... check mirrors... Check sunglasses... Turn tom tom to night mode... check.... Ok, you may now overtake safely on the motorway.

.

Really? I am surprised you aren't dazzled when behind a car at the lights with it's brake lights on, or hell, even just normal taillights ? Perhaps people like a bright screen ?

I have been annoyed in the past when stuck behind some cars by their bright brake lights at the mcdrive or at the lights, I have been annoyed in the past by the reflections (in the wing mirrors) of morons who are running full beams, foglights, or badly set up xenons behind me, but sat navs ? I can't say I've EVER noticed them being ''annoyingly'' bright.

lol yeah some have them bright, but its not that bright that it make it a problem for me and in no way is it as bright as the lights coming the other way on the road.
i have worked nights for 25 years and my eyes are very light sensitive, so i think your exaggerating.

my satnav changes itself to night by the way

I've noticed people not using night mode a few times but I can't say I've ever been dazzled by the display.

Fox had a rant on this not so long ago.

I find my one quite distracting so put it on night mode at 30% brightness which does the trick but as for being blinded by them when you overtake... You're not one of those Chilean miners are you? :p

I can't say it bothers me that much. What does get me, however, is when people are driving along at night with the interior lights on!

I like it to be very dim in the interior. I have my sat nav dimmed almost as low as it will go, and my interior dimmer switch is set as low as it will go. I have a faint orange hue rather than any actual lighting.

It doesnt bother me from a driving perspective, but it bothers me from a 'Why are people so stupid allowed to drive' perspective. I've driven with it on day mode a few times when I've hit the 'on' button in the dark and its been set to day mode.

It's like a burning bright light on your dashboard and it reflects itself perfectly on your side window as well, harming the view.

Just why wouldnt you put it in night mode, unless you were dim? It takes 3 seconds.

If a lit sat nav blinds you, an oncoming car must be like a phosphorus grenade going off in your face.
