Two black teenagers get shot

So you believe your surprise belongs in this area of the forum?
Surely that would be in the general discussion area as we cannot really debate your emotional response to a news article.
Or is there an area of debate you would like us to talk about?

Yes there is and I'll drop the sarcasm. My view will no doubt be taken as racist, yet is there any reason why it should be, when on a regular basis throughout each year we keep hearing the same thing in the news, black teenagers getting shot. When is this epidemic of gun crime which, and correct me if I'm wrong, would appear to be perpetrated almost as a hobby by the youths in the black communities, ever going to stop. I'm sure I'll be read the riot act and told that it's not specific to the black communities, it's everyone.

I think Merlin is trying to say that the black community in this country (and in others such as USA) needs to get its act together and stop all this gang violence.

What you really need to ask is, who are supplying the guns, what are the guns used for, why is it that this particular demographic is caught up in this.

What about the white community, are you all meth heads, are you all paedophiles, are you all racist torturers.

Yes i agree, I would love to know the answers to those questions.

'what are the guns used for', well I think we know that don't we? To stupidly end lives of kids, often because of something as devasting as someone being disrespected.

Actually, it is. What would you do to try and stop the guncrime, or do you think it's all perfectly acceptable?

Well I personally would attempt to address the economic poverty in those areas and the cycle of violence that people get trapped in but that is just me basing my point of view on all that research that links increased crime rates with poverty. I would also attack the notion that its a "black gang" problem when the predominate ethic group that uses drugs in this country is white. So if the "white" people stop the consumption then the "black" people will have a great deal less to shoot each other over. I would promote positive role models in such communities and enable people to escape those communities as per the Bronx model (which I know has its criticisms).

Guns are expensive, so are bullets and thats in the real world. Try this answer, drugs.

Except that they have free education etc so can get themselves out of it if they worked at it

Many black people in these deprived areas choose to make a career over selling drugs, and guns become part of that territory. White people may well predominantly use drugs, but who's forcing black kids to sell them and arm themselves with guns? How about this. Why don't they go and find a respectable job that doesn't require violence. Or shall we just keep defending them because of poverty and say it's ok to be a gunwielding drug dealer because there's no alternative.

I'm shocked. It's just so out of character for kids of the black community. It must be an unfortunate one off. Yeah, that's what it is.

You are getting let off lightly here with a brief introductory post filled with innuendo. Would you like to clarify your point on this as it to me it suggests (by the lack of acknowledgement of the wider social issues) that you are claiming that a predisposition to crime can be linked to the level of melanin in your skin?
