Hey all,

Trying to find myself a motherboard that supports the 775 socket (for my q6600 G0), my dd3 ram, and 460's in SLI. Can't find one.

It's for a full tower, so ATX.

Any ideas?

Oh great. Least I have something to search the bay for I guess.. No new chipsets based on the 775 socket though? With usb3 or sata-6?

Asus Striker 2 extreme. (Nvidia 790i Ultra chipset)

SLi and Q6600 at 4GHz when I had mine. There's a thread of mine on here with all settings so If you manage to get one, PM me and I'll help with the OC'ing :)

For the love of god, don't get a 650 or 680 chipset motherboard. Just. Don't.

790i based motherboard 4tw?

Edit: And by 4tw, I mean... It'll work, for a while.

Why should I not get a 650 or 680 chipset?

The Striker 2 extreme have 2x 16 pci-e's? Thanks for the offer of help :) might chase you up on that one. Are they eol too?

Thanks all

These boards haven't been available for a couple of years or so but if you want socket 775 with SLi they're the only option available.

The 650/680/780/790 chipsets were always a little "temperamental".

I had an Asus Striker Extreme a few years ago and overclocked a Q6600 to 4GHz on it (water cooled). It just gave up the ghost eventually.

So suggestion would be to sell my q6600 for £70ish on the MM, sell the board for £20ish and put that towards an i5/new dual channel ddr3 board?

So no one went DDR3 on a Q6600 really?

The thing to understand is that the q6600 CPU while being a very nice CPU in its day, is really old technology. There have been a number of CPU revisions and two new die size changes since the q6600 first saw the light of day.

You can get new DDR3 motherboards for socket 775 but that doesn't help with wanting to use SLI.

I think the only Nvidia chipset to support DDR3 was the 790i.

If you want to use your 460's in SLI you either need a new motherboard and processor or source an Nvidia 790i SLI motherboard. Try Googling "790i SLI" or access the Members Market (you have enough posts).

Going down the Nvidia chipset route is an investment in old technology but if you can source a reasonably priced motherboard probably the cheapest option given the components you have.

It would have been a good idea to ask about this before ending up with a bunch of components that you can't use together :(

Really don`t get any nforce, stay away from it especially lga 775.
They have many problems, I am using a 6870 and I cannot even restart because it will not detect the card.

There are P43 boards that take a Q6600 and DDR3 and USB3.0 but you wont get SLI as well.

It's the only option available other than a new processor and motherboard.

Having had the experience of a 680i SLI chipset it's not a route I would want go down again.

The OP will have to weigh up the pros and cons and how much they have to spend.

To be fair mate, you're using a brand new ATi card thts been out for a couple of days on a 2 year old NVIDIA motherboard designed and built for NVIDIA cards in SLi. Hardly a suprise you're having trouble ;)

I think you can use 790i which support ddr3 but i am not sure about 460 sli, but i do know it does support your memory and cpu
It will support 4XX series cards - they are all PCI-E 16X

I love my 790i. Never had any trouble, any quite easy to clock. Especially with p8 BIOS. Keep an eye out you should be able to pick one up for £60 or so.

Q6600 + nForce chipset = fail...

Aside from some 790i boards the only other nForce boards that are semi acceptable are the gigabyte N650i DS4 and the EVGA 750i F.T.W. edition (not the regular non F.T.W. - the F.T.W. version is closer to a cut down 790 than a 780/750 board) - neither of which will do stunningly well with a Q6600.

....and the Asus P5N-E SLi (650i) as long as you get some active cooling on the NB and some passive on the SB. Only real problem with it versus the Gigabyte was that Asus tried to also save money on the fan controller so Speedfan messes up and Q-fan doesn't work properly. Having said all that it wasn't a bad board at all in its day and a bargain at about £55 IIRC

My results disagree. They just need knowledge and patience:
