Hi guys,

So, my girlfriend's parents are looking at spending about 20k on a 4x4. I know they're very chelsea tractoresque but, they want what they want.

Currently they're looking at a ML 280 or 320 CDI. Does anyone have any feedback on these or similar cars for the money?

For what it's worth, the Range Rover Sport has too many miles on for the budget they're looking at, around 60-80k.

Thanks

My old boss had an ML350CDI. Not quick, not that nice a place to be inside, extremely girly cars to look at even with the AMG styling stuff on it.

The 7Gtronic gearbox was good though.

Don't know how it is in the ML but my sister has recently got herself an E320 CDi and I must say I was VERY impressed with the way it shifts, deceptively quick. :)

Can't help thinking Mark is on the money here though......

Could do with the bigger engine in a Cayenne but even those 3.2 are a mile in front of the ML's if you ask me.

Can pick up a Audi Q7 3.0TDI S-line for around £22k now. Very good cars and have 7 seats. Solid German quality, they are a tad ugly, but more butch then the ML's.

Fair shout DiamondMark, the Cayenne does seem like a good option. Her parents are reasonably concious of running costs, so would a higher mileage Cayenne, at about 50k+ get through consumables and be more at risk to the less wallet friendly parts failing, than a 30k miles ML?

If you find a decent Porsche indy it wont cost any more than a Merc really.

Where abouts do they live?

Cool sounds like a good option. They live in Surrey, any recommendations?

Jaz in Wembley are the best in the south i have found, worth the drive i live out in Kent so the same distance as they would be driving.
