Hi chaps,

My current suits are wearing out so I'm in the market for a new one. I've been up and down the high street to see the usual suspects, Suits You, Moss Bros, even Austin Reed but as before they all have the same problem: I'm a 42" chest but a 32" waist. 42" chest suits always seem to come with 36" waist trousers, I can get them taken in but then the trousers end up really baggy and too wide, making me look short.

I don't think I can afford to get a suit tailored, though I have no idea on costs. Any smart ideas?

I got a suit from Slater's Mensware just over a year back and my measurements aren't too different from yours, it's something like a 40" chest and they paired it with a 34" waist trousers but they took the trousers in for free and it looks fine. Don't know if they'll have any stores near you though.

This is where i get mine, you go to get measured at your nearest convenient hotel from the list, takes about 4 weeks, you can spend anything from 200 quid upwards to about 4 grand.

I get a few at a time to make it worth the trip up town.

They are about 1/3 of the price of a made to measure in this country.

You could get a much better suit for £300-£500 from a non-Saville Row place I'd imagine. To a certain extent, you'll pay for the fact it's a Saville Row suit.

I buy my suits from Slaters, huge choice, professional staff (they aren't on commission or anything, just truly helpful and know their craft) and go the extra mile. I'm an unusual size too, and they have changed the trousers before to accommodate me as well as do a free adjustment service. You're looking at anything from £120 - £600 from Slaters. I've had cheap suits, medium suits and expensive suits from them and they've all been great.

for 200-500 you can get yourself suits tailored from Tai Pan Row

www.taipanrow.com

They are based in hong kong and come to london every 3 months (they rotate between london, new york, dubai, and hong kong)

They basically do all my suits and all the suits of everyone i know (bankers).

good quality, good finish, etc. If you need them now just get your measurements done in a tailor shop and send it to them via the website. pick your cloth, colour etc. and have them make the suits and send them to you - it'll take a few weeks (or a week by courier)

I was considering to get it from them before but decided to go to another tailor. How was it? Are they pushy sales people ?
