what with all the hardware failures ( are they still inherently failing?) is it safe to be a pre-owned console from one of those high street gaming retailers?

what are the dis-advantages of owing a Xbox 360 Console (4GB Hard Drive) over the ones with the larger hd's?

Disadvantage of the 4GB one is that you can't copy the games to the HDD for quicker quiter operation. Also, [edit] you'll not be able to download a lot of content from the marketplace (though you can now use USB sticks as well). I'd recommend getting one with a bigger HDD. 20GB too small.

Pre-owned from the highstreet is great value, especially as they give you a 1 year store guarantee with them.

Also, you'll be unable to download demos etc from the marketplace.

What? Yes you can.

4GB is perfectly fine, I have a 4GB slim. I only play Fifa 11 so don't need any space, and I have 2 16GB USb Sticks which I can use to save stuff if I need to :)

I was debating whether to get a 2nd hand or new slim..and went with the slim as can get the 4GB new for £110 :)

Okay. I should have said you can't download much in the way of content from the marketplace.

That said, I forgot about being able to use memory sticks now, so that is an option if you don't have the big HDD. I do think if the OP is buying a pre-owned console from the highstreet though he should get one with a 60GB HDD at least.

Not much call for it now, but when I tried an Xbox original with USB storage it said it needed the Harddrive.
