After one year of searching and 3 years of wanting I have finally picked up a Monaro VXR. :D It's the most immaculate example I have seen and the bonus of being completely standard so I can mod it in my own way.

It was owned by a 70 year old man, this car was his pride and joy and was purely a weekend car. Its 4 years old and done 14,000 miles. Full service history from Vauxhall, oil changes every 3,000 miles, new tyres on the rear and pretty much full life left of the brakes.

I'm actually surprised how much kit it has as standard.

  • Auto Lights and dimming mirror
  • Duel Zone Climate Control
  • Electric front seats with Memory
  • Extra Gauges
  • Parking Sensors
  • 6 CD changer with 10 speakers

Plus a host of other cool things

The coolest feature I've found so far is that the two keys remember your preferences such as Climate settings, seat settings, auto lights sensitivity and radio pre-sets.

I had a 100 miles ride back on the motorway and averaged 27mpg which from a 6.0l V8 isn't too shabby. The seats are very comfortable yet supportive and the ride is fairly soft and wind and road noise are controlled very well. All in all it makes the Monaro a very effective cruiser.

Around town is a bit of hard work as the gearbox and clutch feel like they've come from a tractor. Very stiff and heavy. I'm going to end up with one hell of a fapping arm driving this thing.

I've only had it a few days and I've already had random people coming up to me and asking about it and taking pictures. Not sure if that’s a good thing with my old car getting pinched. :p

The engine has a classic V8 rumble and you can defiantly tell that there is something special under the bonnet. The way it picks up speed is so effortless and silky smooth. It's really rather deceptive because it doesn't feel as quick as the Astra but the speedo certainly says otherwise!

I am a member but not been posting yet. I've also just signed up to Detailing World as I want to invest in some epic cleaning gear.

Absolutely love it m8, your Astra was nice, but this is ten times better. Now you will find out how addictive it is to get a V8 motor and learning how easy they are to modify and tinker with. :)

Might I suggest, CAI/filter, long tube headers, exhaust and remap, the power will be immense you will get out of the LS2 and the noise truly something staggering.

Does it have H-Pipe or X-Pipe towards back of exhaust system? If so by trying different ones the sound you can get is epic, will scare the hell out of people when you rev it or apply the throttle.

Amazing car and the best revision of Monaro they made, shame they stopped making it, look after it and in 2-3yrs you will probably loose little to no money on it. :)

P.S. Be careful on those cold wet mornings. ;)

The side view reminds me of a Mondeo for some reason.. How has the drivers bolster got that creased after 14,000 miles? Did you buy it off a big lad?

Great machines though!

Age and lots of short trips at weekend probably.

Although its only done 14,000 miles its a 4 year old car.

I got it for £16000, which some might say is over the odds but this car is perfect, not a single mark and has a brilliant history so I'm happy.

VXR8. This was a stretch when I tried it not long ago but tilting the chair forward allows me to press the clutch with ease.

I can't help but think it'd look better if it didn't have the like, bar on the middle air vent. Cool car though, can't deny the V8 awesome :D
