Hello everyone..

I have a question, regarding the system im planning on buying, which as stated above is the "Ultima Dreadnought". Link;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-132-OE

I plan to add a 80gb SSD to this system, but then was thinking about upgrading the RAM also.

Now i plan to save about £60 on the original monitor i was going to buy, so i thought about upgrading the Ram with the money i saved.. but ill put the upgrade up to £100 give or take a few quid.

So i have a simple question, what kind of RAM upgrade would be worth it for £100?

Also, a couple more questions if anyone cares to answer;

If i increase the RAM from 6gb to 12gb, would the speed reduce?
And
Would it be best to upgrade from 6gb 1600mhz to 12gb 1600mhz or upgrade to 6gb 2000mhz? Seems 12gb of 2000mhz is still quite expensive!

Thanks very much for reading :)

Kyle.

P.S, Forgot to mention what i run on my computer if it makes it any better, i run World of warcraft, iTunes, Multiple web browsers with multiple tabs and i plan to have a 2nd monitor to use for MSN and other little bits and bobs lol.

*Edit*

Forgot to ask, when i ring overclockers to order this system, will they be able to fit the ram and optimize it? So i dont have to set anything up?

OCuk won't upgrade the memory to 12gb, and keep the overclock on it, there overclocked packages are based on the memory in the spec, as its far harder to get the same overclock stable with more ram, by that i mean a lot more time. So they keep it simple.

About the speed of the ram, you would'nt notice it day to day, so id stick with the 1600mhz stuff in the package, the only way you would spot the difference is in synthetic memory benchmarks.

Also the 60gb vertex ssd is the better option to get then the intel 80gb, as its a lot faster, and abit cheaper also.

So basicly for your needs 6gb of memory is more then enough, and will allow u to have the overclocked speed, the only time you would need 12gb of ram is if you where big time into your rendering and stuff like that.

Ok, thanks very much for the quick reply. Will keep the ram the same then.

Thing with SSD, i am unsure of size of Windows 7 home premium, kind of wanted to fit a bit more on there than just OS. But if its faster then thanks, Speed is more important.

Thank you.

60gb SSD will be fine for windows and your basic apps but if you intend on gaming via your SSD its not enough imo, this for me is my big problem with SSDs cause imo for gaming you want 120gb.

For example my steam library itself is over 60gb :P and individual games can get to 15gb installed these days. If gaming is not a concern for you tho 60gb is just fine and dandy.

So if i decide to upgrade to 120gb, what one is best to get? Ill use the money i was going to spend on ram to put to a bigger SSD.

Thanks :)

Well it depends how much money you have, theres an assortment of decent ones for between £170-200 then you have the revodrive which leaves most SSDs in the dust but its about £320 at tho mo. If your a very wealthy man there are options beyond that for retarded money but thats plain insanity to me :P.

Well to be honest i would just use the extra £100 or so what i was going to spend on ram on the SSD insted. I dont fancy going to £320 on a hard drive lol, so its plain insanity to me too! heh.

The 60GB SSD Adds £81 to the price, so lets say around £200 on a SSD total, hope that helps.

Thanks very much for the replies too, very much appreciated! :)

Well i decided, ill have;

OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot 120GB 3.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive

fitted insted of the 60gb, Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Very much appreciated, thank you.

Kyle. :)
