Watercooling...

I have decided I want to watercool my PC, but, I dont know where to start. My case can only accomodate a 240mm Rad in the roof, which I dont think would be capable of running an i5 and 5870? I plan to clock the i5 to 4.0/4.2 if I watercool. So would I need a new case?

Or, how easy is it to mod the Haf 922 to take a tripple?

If I need a new case, which would be able to take a triple rad nativly? (Without Modding preferably) And how much will it cost to water cool my CPU first, then add the GPU later on? I dont think I will be able to afford to get a new case and a full WC set up in one pop...

Sorry if that didnt make much sense as well :P

It depends how you want your watercooling setup. I would never mount pump, radiator + other things inside my case. I would make a way to mod my case with 2 tubular holes for the tubing to pass though. I like to see the inside of my case as clean as possible.

I would definately prefer having it all within the case. Can you transport the computer if its water cooled? Just got to be extra careful?

Iv moved my case about a fair bit, and its watercooled, you just have to be careful, now if u meant transporting it in say a car or something, you would have to keep it upright next to you (you as passenger), and holding it, but it can be done, yes.

A good quality double could cool your system quite easily, some people run a 5890 + 2 xeons on a feser120.2 with good tempetures.
What sort of budget do you have in mind?

Okay, that make me feel a bit better. I think im going to put jubile clips on everything, just to be sure, and when I transport it, it will be in its box upright.

Will a 240 be enough for my CPU ang GPU? If not, how easy is it to mod the HAF to take a triple?

I dont really know, looking around it seems that around £200 for a CPU loop and £250 ish for both.

Just buy some distilled water for fluid and a kill coil from a water cooling shop then you are ready to go.

Those barbs i would'nt use, stubby ones are not that great really and should be avoided, your ideally want Hose Tail barbs, as they are an extremly tight fit with that tubing.

Transporting is okay as long as you make it easily to be transported. Yes a 240 + 2 good fans at least 1700RPM static pressure rated at 0.080 inH2O will be fine, 2 Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1850RPM AP-15 will do great for you.

Can someone spec me a good dual rad, CPU block pump/res and tubing and fittings. Good enough so I can add the GPU later on.

its all about how much air you can get through the rad....you want something like 4 x 120mm apaches or noctuas in push/pull through it sucking from outside to inside....otherwise it may not be to efective. dont know what the ek rads are like but i use feser and my temps are really good. my 5970 stays at 31c and my 980x is at an average of 22c over 6 cores using 1 x 360 feser with 6 noctuas push/pull and 1 x 160 micro rad from danger den with 2 x 80mm noctuas which is only push due to space

i prefer to try and keep it all within the case if possible otherwise it makes transportation impossible
also try to use plastic snap clips other than jubilee clips....there cheap and much neater and dont conduct

Thats a very nice rig you have there mate. Where did you get the plastic clips?

I already have the 4 clusters and use them 2 push/pull on the h50-1 on the back and 2 on the roof. Would they be good enough for use on a rad?

Here are the specs for the clusters;

Model UCCL12
Speed (RPM) 500 to 1200
Features PWM, LED on/off switch
Voltage 12V
Current 0.5
Flow (MAX)(CFM) 23.86 tp 53.02
Pressure (MAX)(mm-H20) 0.483 to 1.073
Noise dB(A) 8 to 14
Frame Color white (modular)
Blade Color

white
Dimensions (DxWxH)

120x120x25mm

i bought mine from danger den with the rest of my stuff but im sure you can get them from frozen cpu or somewere like that in the uk.....there much better than jubilee clips both function and looks..... try and google your fans against the likes of the noctua and apaches they might be fine....but the fans are 100% were the cooling comes in they have to create enough vacuum and air flow to cool the fins on the rad without it it just doesnt work i know first hand they dont need to be noisey fans or fast running they just have to be efficient with a high through put of air which both fans mention are.they are the fan kings for this job ryan

the noctuas are 54cfm and the apaches 57cfm both are very quiet...i have 8 noctuas running and its just a gentle blow not bad at all

I think I am just gonna try the 4 clusters and see how it goes. Anyone know how much clearance there is between the top of the HAF and the top of the MB? Ie, would a rad with 4 fans cover the top of the MB?
