Wierd fan noise on 5870

Hi All

My 5870 has started to make a strange noise its like a humming noise . its still under warranty but i cant find my receipt it was brought from clockers in feb 2010 payed cash for card . and iam not buying a 3rd party cooler . So what are my options ?

spoken to XFX and they have advised to speak to reseller you brought it from

are you sure its not capacitor squeal? does it happen all the time or just when certain things are displayed (like bright colours..)?

My card squeals when its displaying bright colours (sometimes), did a little research and the long and short of it was, tough

Might be helpful if you could use it with a fan controller just to check.

I have identical problem, with identical card, XFX 5870
It deffo is not capacitors, i checked.

Noise goes away if i speed up the fan too anywhere between 80 to 100% and let it run like that for a minute or 2, then i put it back to stock fan speeds and all is good.

Card performs fine.

I have heard this squeal with my 5870....

Very very rare tho, seemed to happen more when it was new.
